Who are you? 2

" Alright, alright, alright" Dr. Sue decided to just give up, because it wasn't too late to turn her in later. Dr. Sue made a gesture of calming down and gestured it to Mariel.

His actions might seem to ease the tension building in the room, that he actually created thanks to his brass demeanor earlier but he did it to casually and unsincerely.

His gaze as he said it was as still as an unrippled lake. Although, the tone of his was mellow, disarming and soothing. To be exact, it was the voice you'd wish you'd be able to hear in a podcast .

" Who are you?", Liz softly asked and although, she tried to make it as nice as she wanted, her tone couldn't hide the slight arrogance and haughtiness as well as the way she moves.

She tilted her head high and straightened her back. Liz moved closer to 'Mariel' , whether 'Mariel' like it or not. Until their faces were mere 5 forefingers apart, Liz sweetly smiled at her, now she was intimidating her.

Realizing this, Dr. Sue gave Liz a raise of his brow, clearly taken aback but also slightly amused by this. There was a glint in his eyes as raised a corner of his lips. Showing, what might not be all but rather some of his upper teeth. ' Really, you were just scolding me earlier, right?'

For that question, Liz just rolled her eyes animatedly for one second before turning her attention back to the girl who calls herself 'Mariel'.

He changed his posture from leaning back with his arms crossed to placing his right hand on his right Hip, then puting all his weight in his left hand, which is currently resting on the counter, he did all of it with ease.

But, when poised like that, he looked nothing more than a bandit rather than a young master who only knows research.

" She asked you a question", Dr. Sue decided to help her this time, unlike before with that old man.

" Who are you?" Liz asked, this time a bit more forceful and commanding.

Yet Mariel seemed not to hear a single spund coming from their mouths, she continued to let her mouth hanging, completely different from her previous disarray and false bravado.

She stared at Liz strangely or more, specifically at the fan she was clutching,

' it appeared out of thin air'.

' it appeared out of thin air'

' it appeared out of thin air'

It appeared out of thi--'

If the first time was was a just blank observation for Mariel , then the last was akin to the power of the nuclear bombs' sound of explosion.

It kept repeating in her head , until what happened progressively no--- like the thought utterly sunk in like a hot, molten metal tatooed inside her head.

" Where did you get that fan?!" Mariel blurted out as her voice raised in several octaves higher when she pointed at the totally bizzare fan.

Liz and Sullivan or Dr. Sue both looked at her confused by her out of context behavior. Liz being closest to her followed Mariels' gaze and became even more confused. " A fan?"

She raised it high for the other to see and Dr. Sue really looked at it.

Under Liz perplexed gaze and Mariels' shock , he examined it and found...

...nothing, it was a normal fan. None of them saw, what Mariel saw. Even, Liz who made the fan appear out of nowhere was as clueless as Dr. Sue.

" What's up with you?" Dr. Sue couldn't twist his elbow in this, he added, " It's just a fan"

But, Mariel shook her head clearly, still rattled by what happened. " No---no, no ,no , no" she repeated, she let the metal stick she's been holding on to down and pointed at the fan.

" How'd you do it?" She asked Liz, her brows furrowed and she looked her in the eye. With this sentence, she appeared more serious and rather mature like how she was supposed to be. Not as hestitant as before and more appealing to the eye.

Liz looked at her baffled, " What have I done?"

"You---" Mariel restrained herself from , pointing a finger at Lizs' nose . Finding it too much herself but the matter at hand was too weird even for her, so she spoke this time more slowl, calmly and clearly, " You made that fan appear out of thin air!"

But, her words still carried the significance of the matter, showing that she isn't actually as calm as how she wanted to appear to be.

" She did?", Dr. Sue chimed in suddenly from the side, his arms crossed and he simply concluded, it was a normal fan.

He leaned in to examine the fan in Lizs' hands more profusely. Except... huh.

It is different.

It would've looked quite meager if he was still in his normal life. A folding fan made from bamboo woods , laced with laces, decorated with white roses and adorned with a large pearl at its hilt.

The bamboo wood made the fan look humble at first sight, the laces were large a chunk of fabric just bunched together, both of them made it look quite cumbersome for a fan. Yet, if you look closely you would be able to see embroidery.

Carefully embroidered in its fabric were 4 swans: some flying, some by the lake.

Plants adorned the scene from the side while the swans played in the lake. It was a design that was quite hard to see, as if the person who made it doesn't want anyone to see its beauty. Since, they used threads and the fabric they also chose were out of white.

Unless you look closely, you wouldn't be able to tell.

The fan wasn't made out gold nor was the wood made out of something expensive. But, the level of delicateness and thought within that embroidery made the price out of reach.

Not to mention the delicate lacing , even the pearl might not compare to the embroidery in it. Actually, that Pearl might just make the fan hard to fold it, undermining the fans' actual worth, making it look luxurious and useless at the same time.

Both Liz and Dr.Sue realized this and Mariel realized this even before them, all of them silently gulped.

"Hey Liz, Where did you get that fan?"

Dr. Sue nugded Liz who was right beside him but, Liz didn't look at him.

Her hands holding the fan was shaking, she looked quite spooked when she turned her frightened gaze at Mariel.

" W- what did you say ha- happen?" Liz tried to calm herself, but she failed.

Her voice quaked before she could do a thing about it.

" The fan appeared out of nowhere " Mariel affirmed. But, this was the last thing she wanted to hear right now.

'What do you mean it appeared out of thin air?!'

Liz screamed in her heart , she really wanted to throw this fan out, but with nothing better to do, she threw it at Dr. Sue without thinking and shaken by fear the enemy immediately became her friend.

They both cowered over by the door.

Mariel even forgot to bring her metal stick and Liz hid behind her.

Dr. Sue couldn't help his mouth from twitching, the two who were enemies before and the one who he sided with, had both abandoned him side by side. Not to mention, hand to hand.

He glanced at the fan he was holding with both of his hands. Since, he didn't had the time to react when Liz threw it at him and scratched his head with his the third hand his departed parents never gave him.
