"At least, your hair now is better, although it's all because of your foolishness, just think of what your father will say to you when he comes back from England". His mother's voice once again snapped him out of his thoughts.
He picked up his mobile phone and took a look at his hair. It wasn't bad, but his long and curly parts were now gone. It was now like a half- low, of which he detested that hair cut. There was nothing he could do, just to sit by and allow his hair grow back, he only wished it happened more faster.
" Blessed, I can understand how you feel, but- I think of the best anyways, imagine if you got burnt in the process, maybe not your hair, but your self?".
Her question was direct, simple and plain... He wondered what his class mates would think of him?.Especially now his hair was cut low. Ever since they relocated to Africa, he never felt easy In his spirit, he couldn't even sleep properly, nor feel relaxed.
Although his father was sorely responsible for their relocation, he never for one day made mention of why they relocated . It was like hell for Bless, having being relocated to Nigeria, adjusting to the new world he found himself in.
Fitting in was completely difficult for him, his first day in school was filled with taunts. He had to endure that over and over again, now that his hair was brought low... . How would he endure it?.
" Why don't you go to bed?. It's already late and you have school to attend to tomorrow". His mother said heading towards her room .
Bless was lost in thought. His mind drifted back to the revelation he once had, was it going to be a reality?.... He shook his head vehemently, that revelation was the reason why his hair was burnt in the first place.
He frowned slightly. Although he was disappointed, nevertheless, he was happy within that he had a new hair cut. He didn't know why, but deep within he was happy that his hair was cut. He was supposed to be sad, furious and bitter, but no, he was excited about his new hairdo.
Without much thought, he headed towards his room. His stomach rumbled a bit, but he thought it was because of the fact that he ate beans and pap for dinner. His stomach had little tolerance for protein related foods. he slowly curled up into his bed, and held the blanket.
He had previously locked the door on purpose, he hated it when his mother had to wake him up on time for school. Now his mother would have to knock and knock before he opens the door. Signing contentedly, he rolled the duvet up to his chest, and shutting his eyes .
His breath was now slower than usual, as he drifted off to a sleep wonder land. All of a sudden, something happened, he wanted to wake up, but he couldn't. There was something wrong, but he just couldn't wake up..
It was as if a cloud of wind swirled around him, blowing the curtains as if they were about to be ripped off. The windows made noises that further added to the chaos. He shut his eyes refusing to open them, as something unexpected might befall him. The door that was once locked opened and it forced him to open his eyes, which immediately illuminated the dimly lit room.
He held his chest, breathing heavily. ' what he hell just happened now'. He asked himself. How could he open his eyes and all of a sudden, the lights flickered on. He turned to see the door, which he locked, now open, wide enough, he turned to check on the windows and found them alright and the curtains too.
He slowly got up the bed and locked the door, switching off the lights, his heart pounded powerfully against his chest, as he tried to calm his racing heart down. He pulled the duvet up to his chest and shutting his eyes. This time around something more worse happened, a whirlwind engulfed the entire room, wreaking havoc. Three of his windows glasses shattered abruptly, whole room began to shake vehemently, he heard noises that made him fear.
Still shutting his eyes, he refused to open his eyes to check what was going on, in fear of what he might encounter. Just then he heard his name loud and clear.
' Blessed...'
' Blessed...'
'Blessed...'
Bless stirred and stirred he just couldn't make sense of what was happening to him. He slowly opened his eyes, as his pupils turned golden, everything calmed down and whatever that happened before went back to normal.
He held his breath, and reached for his phone, and screamed on top of his voice when he saw his pupils now changed color to golden. He blinked several times and it went back to normal. Bless became alarmed, as he scanned everything in his room, he knew he couldn't sleep again, not after everything that happened to him. His head spined hard, that he tried making sense of what was happening to him.' Am I going crazy?. Is this a dream?'.
He quickly jumped right out if the bed and headed for his mother's room. Luckily for him, his mother didn't lock the door as usual, he thanked God before coming straight in.
Mrs Onyii was shocked why Bless had to barge into her room. " What the hell is wrong with you?. Do you realize that this is my room and not yours".? She asked with hands akimbo.
Bless thought of any excuse to give, but couldn't find none. Words got stucked in his throat, not wanting to upset her the more, he spoke in a teary tone.
" Can I please stay here with you, mother?. I had a very terrible nightmare".
