Chapter Fourteen: The Quartet.

"Bless??. Bless??. Bless??". Nengi asked tapping him gently on the shoulder, causing his mind to come back to reality.

" Hmm. N- Nengi?. Is...".

Nengi cupped his chin and as she stared deep into his coral black eyes, he seemed to be lost in a haze, as all that mattered was her eyes, and the smoothness of her palms, against his chin.

" Is something wrong, tell me, you can count on me, you should know that". Nengi asked.

Brushing off his lips, he shivered at that very thought, he held her hands, bringing it down to her thighs. He didn't like the way, his body reacted to the little things that happened, whenever they were close.

Taking a deep breath, he shut his eyes trying to calm his nerves down.

" Is- is my father, Nengi. He- he - he wants to divorce my mom, and marry another woman!". Bless screamed.

To Nengi it totally did not make sense at all. Divorce?. Why?. And when?.

" How did you know of this?". She asked doubtfully.

Bless wiped his tears, looking at Nengi, his mind recalled the conversation he heard , between his father and his unknown lover, and the word' divorce '...

" I heard it loud and clear, Nengi... He wants to d- divorce my mother and go back to New York, I swear I'm not making things up, Nengi, it's the truth...".

Nengi was at short of words, for the meantime, trying to process what she just heard, but the realization dawned on her, that Bless wasn't joking, she understood what it meant for one to get separated from his or her parents.

wiping off the streaks of tears from his eyes, she comforted him.

" Hey, i- I really understand your pain, and trust me, I also went through that rough phase". Nengi opened up.

Bless stopped crying and looked up staring at Nengi. He blinked several times to fully grasp what he heard.

" N- Nengi?. Do you mean that - that you once experienced this kind of trauma?".

Nengi nodded, her eyes fixed on the soda bottle on her table and gripped it tightly. Her eyes were watery as she recalled the very day, her father left them.

" My father left us, because he discovered that my mother's identity. "

" Which identity?".

" Of being a witch. My mom told him everything, he needed to know as he was starting to have his suspicions". She told him.

Bless starred at her in awe. He just couldn't make sense of what he heard. Nengi continued.

" My father came back from business one evening, and he met my mother, casting spells and invoking her spirit beast. Well, although it wasn't the right time, yet she just felt like doing so, and my dad... . Caught her red handed, causing her to explain everything, and my dad couldn't take it... He opted for a divorce".

Nengi went silent as the memories of that fateful day kept flooding. Her father left his mother and reported her to the hands of his elders in the village. Their marriage was dissolved and he went ahead to marry another woman.

Bless's gaze was fixed on Nengi as he watched her carefully. It was the very first time, he had seen Nengi shed tears as if she was a baby. She was no longer the Nengi he knew, but rather, completely different person.

" He said that since she practices witchcraft, all of us will still end up becoming witches too, so he disowned us as well. And ever since then, he walked away and never bothered to call on the phone, or come back to us...and we grew up without experiencing the love of a father ".

" But... Someone being born with super powers, Is not evil right?. I mean, can't people like us live normally, and people understanding us?". Bless asked.

" Bless, it is not as easy as you think it is.. especially in this part of our town, where people abhor wizardry. Tell me, how will you feel, when you tell your parents of you having magical powers... It's like admitting to the fact that you are a gay." Nengi spoke with her voice filled with heaviness .

Bless looked up to the heavens, feeling sorts of emotions swirling around him. Accepting to be who he is wasn't going to be an easy one.

For some couple of minutes, they were silent, each refusing to touch their snacks, as they were seated on a table, waiting for break to be over .

Sasha was half jogging and half walking. His brown hair was packed in a low bun, making him eye catching. His eyes were filled with mischief and concern as he joined the two, whom were quiet.

" What's going on here?. Did any one die? Did something happen to Ozo?". He gasped playfully, making Nengi shot glares at him.

" I'm just asking... You all are quiet... What happened?. And you Nengi.. it's rare to see you quiet, as you can talk for Africa".

" Oh, really??. If I am a talkative, then I rather be, than to be with a flirt like you, you disgust me". Nengi spat.

Sasha held his chest dramatically, as he tried to understand why Nengi will say something like that. But, to be honest, it really pierced him.

Bless chuckled as he watched Nengi back alive and exchanging words with Sasha, who never seized the chance to flirt with her.

As he was looking away, sipping his soda, his eyes landed on someone in particular, because he was nervous, he spat out a large amount of soda.

" Hey.. what's wrong with you?". Sasha asked as he was irritated, Bless spat almost directly at his face, and Nengi chuckling, but a slight frown on her face as she saw him. Sasha has to look up to see, whom got the attention of his friends. Finally knowing whom, it was, he flashed him a gorgeous smile, winking at him.

" It's good to have, you back.... Sorcerer". A sly smile forming on his lips, followed by Bless's shocked reaction.
