The air in the alchemy room was suffocating, thick with the weight of unspoken words and lingering energy. Ash lay unconscious at the center, surrounded by shards of a shattered blue orb—Pyre's protective barrier. The remnants of the orb flickered faintly, pulsing with residual energy as Pyre knelt beside Ash's still form, his hand resting lightly on his student's chest.
Pyre's gaze shifted to Ash, his usually relaxed expression now replaced with something unreadable. His voice was low, deliberate.
"It's time, Ash," Pyre murmured. "You're standing at the edge of something greater. To rise, to conquer, and to endure what others could not... This path isn't for the weak."
The wolf let out a low growl, its crimson eyes fixed on something far beyond the immediate world. Pyre straightened, his aura shifting, burning hotter as his instincts sharpened.
"It's time," he said again, louder this time, his voice carrying across the clearing. "Isn't it?"
He raised his hand, summoning a blazing blue orb that pulsed with ancient energy. The orb expanded into a protective cocoon around Ash, strengthening the barrier already in place.
Suddenly, the atmosphere changed. The air grew heavy, suffocating, as frost crept across the ground. From the shadows emerged a towering figure—a hulking beast, five meters tall, its form covered in jagged, crimson-tinted ice. The creature's eyes burned with malice, a frozen hell contained within their gaze.
The beast exhaled, and the very breath it released crystallized in the air, spreading shards of red ice across the terrain. It stepped forward, each movement deliberate, each footfall sending a bone-chilling crack through the earth.
Pyre stood, unflinching, his hand still raised protectively over Ash.
The creature's voice was deep and grating, like ice scraping against stone. "You would protect this mortal? Step aside, fire-wielder, and I may spare your existence."
Pyre's lips curled into a smirk, but his eyes darkened, glowing faintly with blue flames. "Fuck off," he said, his tone razor-sharp. "He's my student."
The beast roared, and crimson ice erupted from its body, forming jagged spikes that shot toward Pyre with devastating speed. Pyre flicked his wrist, summoning a torrent of blue flames that met the ice head-on. The fire consumed the spikes instantly, melting them into harmless steam.
"You'll have to try harder than that," Pyre said, his voice laced with mockery.
The beast lunged, its massive claws covered in frozen blades. It swung at Pyre, each swipe leaving trails of crystalline frost in the air. Pyre sidestepped effortlessly, his movements fluid, almost casual.
With a flick of his hand, he conjured a wall of fire, separating himself from the beast. The flames danced and writhed, forming the shape of a phoenix that screeched and lunged at the creature. The crimson ice beast roared, raising a shield of frost that clashed with the fiery phoenix, creating an explosion of steam and ash.
The ground shook as the battle escalated. The beast slammed its fists into the earth, sending shockwaves that cracked the terrain and shattered the nearby trees into icy splinters. Pyre leapt into the air, summoning a fiery whip that lashed out, wrapping around the beast's arm and yanking it off balance.
The creature retaliated with a blast of red ice, the frozen energy tearing through the air like a hurricane. Pyre countered with an inferno, the flames spiraling into the icy gale and pushing it back toward the beast.
The wolf watched from the sidelines, its ears pinned flat against its head, growling low. Ash remained unconscious within the protective barrier, his chest rising and falling steadily despite the chaos around him.
Pyre landed gracefully on the fractured ground, his gaze locked on the beast. He extended both hands, summoning twin orbs of blue fire that burned hotter than anything the creature had ever faced. The flames crackled, their intensity causing the air around them to warp and shimmer.
"You don't understand who you're dealing with," Pyre said, his voice carrying a dangerous edge.
The beast roared, charging again, its entire body covered in razor-sharp ice. Pyre stood his ground, his blue flames flaring brighter, higher, until they engulfed him entirely.
When the creature reached him, Pyre moved faster than the eye could follow. He sidestepped the beast's charge and slammed one flaming hand against its chest. The fire spread instantly, crawling across the creature's icy form, consuming its crimson ice in a dazzling blaze.
The beast staggered, its movements slowing as the fire ate away at its core. It swung wildly, desperate to land a hit, but Pyre danced around its attacks with ease, his expression calm and unbothered.
"You're fighting against inevitability," Pyre said, his tone almost pitying. "You wanted unrivaled power? You wanted fate to bow to you? Too bad. I'm the one who decides his fate."
With that, Pyre leapt into the air, summoning a massive pillar of blue fire. He descended with a roar, slamming the flames into the beast's chest with such force that the ground beneath them collapsed, sending shockwaves through the mountain.
The beast let out a final, ear-splitting roar as its icy form shattered, pieces of crimson frost scattering into the wind. Pyre landed gracefully amidst the debris, the blue flames around him flickering before fading away.
He stepped forward, placing a hand on the beast's head—or what was left of it. "I know what you wanted," he said softly. "You wanted to be remembered. To be feared. To have a fate unrivaled. But there's no place for you here."
The flames reignited, consuming the beast's remains entirely.
Pyre turned back toward Ash, who remained unconscious within the barrier. The wolf padded over to him, its crimson eyes watching Pyre with quiet understanding.
Pyre knelt beside Ash, brushing a hand over the barrier. "I've seen too many like him fall," he murmured. "Too many who were supposed to rise but were cut down before their time."
He looked to the wolf, a faint smile playing on his lips. "But not this one."
The wolf let out a soft huff, lying down beside Ash as Pyre leaned back, his eyes scanning the horizon.
"He's going to make it," Pyre said, his voice resolute. "Even if I have to burn down everything in his way."
