I was supposed to protect her

"Why didn't you tell me?" Lauren was wiping off her makeup at her vanity desk.

"Tell you what?" Roman was seated in bed, with his back against the headboard, going through his phone.

"About your parents coming over last minute." Lauren stated the obvious while turning to face him.

"Babe. It wasn't last minute. Besides, they're my parents. They can come over whenever they like."

"Of course they're your parents. But babe, we had dinner plans for tonight."

Roman paused.

"Don't tell me you forgot!" Lauren quickly sat in front of Roman to question him.

"I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you. I promise."

"You better." Lauren's face broke into a smile when Roman attacked her neck with a bunch of kisses.

The two finally lay in bed together, all cuddled up.

"How'd it go with Felix?" Lauren was lightly running her finger up and down Roman's arm.

"We've finally made up."

"That's good."

"Yeah."

Ring Ring

Lauren scrunched her face in confusion as she reached for her phone that was ringing.

"Hello?" Lauren sighed. "Fine. I'll be there."

"Who was it?"

"It was a call from the hospital. Apparently, there are a lot of casualties in the ER from a traffic accident." Lauren quickly changed into fresh clothes, ready to go and help out at the hospital for the hectic night shift that awaited her.

"Let me drive you." Roman didn't give her a chance to refuse as he too changed clothes.

At Haven University Hospital, medical personnel were running up and down trying to attend to the countless patients that filled their hospital.

Lauren quickly joined her colleagues when she and Roman arrived at the hospital. Roman was surprised to see so many patients in the corridors, others being brought in injured by several ambulances.

One of the patients who was being brought in by the paramedics caught his eye. The patient was conscious and severely injured. An oxygen mask was attached to her nose as the paramedics tried to stop the bleeding.

"We need help over here!" One of the paramedics shouted as nurses rushed to help take the patient straight to the operation room.

Brooklyn?!

Although he was shocked at what he saw, Roman quickly dialled Felix's number. Coincidentally, Felix was running after Brooklyn's stretcher.

The nurses had a tough time restricting Felix from entering the restricted operating room. Roman had to intervene.

"Felix! Come on. She needs to be operated on. She'll be out soon."

"It's all my fault." Felix said as he dejectedly slumped down on the waiting chairs.

Felix stared at his bloody hands that were shaking uncontrollably. "I was supposed to protect her."
