Chapter III: The Shelter
Water, food, antibiotics, bandages, flint, compound crossbow, hand-cranked radio, compass.
These are the things I pulled out of the rubble.
There were two military kettles, a total of 5L of pure water. Although the 2L bottle of water had been stored for a long time and smelled of smoke, it did not affect drinking.
In addition to food, most of the compressed biscuits I stored were intact, but the cans were smashed a lot. Canned foods are not as convenient as compressed biscuits, but they are the only way to supplement vitamins. I put food in waterproof bags wrapped up, these years I store the amount of food, not considering the drinking situation, enough for me and Xiao Leng to eat for half a year.
I wasn't going to take all the food with me, but after filling the waterproof bag, I tied it tight, and there was enough here to feed us for more than a month without wasting it.
The antibiotics flucloxacillin and flint, two life-saving things, I kept close to me in my pocket.
As for the arrows of the composite crossbow, I only found three in the ruins.
After checking the function of the compound crossbow, I sat beside Xiao Leng who was asleep.
If I really run into that monster outside, I'm afraid I won't be able to protect myself with my current armed forces. However, Liao was better than nothing.
I care more about the humble hand-cranked radio than the weapon.
This is my only source of information.
The nuclear explosion destroyed all the cell towers, rendering the electronics useless.
I cranked the handle and the radio generated electricity to search for nearby satellite signals.
The only sound coming from the radio was the buzz of electricity.
It seemed that the magnetic field disturbance had not disappeared yet, and the satellite signal could not be received normally at all.
...
Seven hours after the nuclear explosion, Xiao Leng woke up and I opened her can.
At the eighth hour, I couldn't hold on and fell asleep.
Fifteen hours later, I woke up and Xiao Leng told me that there was a sound on the radio.
However, the electric current was still very loud, and it was impossible to hear the contents clearly.
It was raining black outside again.
I rubbed my forehead and checked the supplies again.
At the thirty-second hour, when the sun rose again, I climbed up the ruins with my supplies.
After confirming that there was no danger around, I pulled Xiao Leng up.
"Brother, where are we going?"
Xiao Leng asked me through the gas mask.
"Stay away from the nuclear explosion center. It's best if you can find help and go to another city."
I loaded my crossbow and walked cautiously ahead.
Xiao Leng tightened the corner of my clothes and didn't dare to lag behind. The monster from last night had left a big shadow on her.
We walked cautiously and found no sign of the monster.
Farther away from the explosion center, there were still many buildings that had not been completely destroyed, and the broken bricks and walls could fall at any time.
I chose a more open path. I wasn't sure if the creature would be active during the day. The view in densely built areas was not wide enough for me to have sufficient warning.
If I hadn't seen that monster yesterday, I wouldn't have been so cautious.
I'm not sure where they're hiding or how many.
"I can't walk anymore."
Xiao Leng behind me shouted and squeezed my arm.
When she turned her head, she crouched down and cried.
"I…I don't want to leave…"
Xiao Leng kept sobbing.
I crouched down too. I could see through the transparent mask that covered her face with sweat.
The midday sun was so strong that the entire city looked like a giant steamer.
She had been walking behind me all morning in heavy hazmat suits.
"Rest for a while and replenish some water."
As I spoke, I took out a 2L military kettle. There was still half a bottle of water left.
When Xiao Leng and I had finished replenishing the water, the water in the kettle had already bottomed out.
Two days, I and a small cold drink with 2l of water, is already a very economical degree.
However, according to this progress, if they did not get help, the remaining 3l of water would only last for four days at most.
For four days, we had to find help to replenish our water supply.
However, I didn't say anything more to Xiao Leng. I didn't want to increase her anxiety.
Sitting on the floor, I fiddled with the crank radio.
Just one turn, the signal is connected!
after a burst of electric current, a voice came from the radio: "survivors of the lingnan disaster area, there will be no rescue for a short time. two hours ago, we have locked on to the enemy's strategic cities and launched precise nuclear strikes." I repeat... Attention survivors of Lingnan disaster area...'
The voice stopped, and my face turned extremely gray.
This is the worst case scenario, I don't know if this is real-time news, whether it is or not, it means that global nuclear war has begun, and there may even be a second nuclear explosion!
I remembered the news Xiao Leng and I heard before the disaster. All of this was caused by the bombing of the Alpha Biology Laboratory in M Nation.
"Brother…are we still going forward?"
Xiao Leng interrupted my thoughts, and I could hear a hint of despair in her tone.
"Let's move forward. There's still hope."
I stood up and extended my hand toward Xiao Leng.
At our speed, we walked about ten kilometers before the sunset fell on my shoulders.
Night is coming, and we must find shelter.
Fortunately, we found a bomb shelter before nightfall.
Before the entrance, I protected Xiao Leng behind me.
He wondered if there was something hidden in the darkness below the tunnel of the bomb shelter.
I set up my composite crossbow and took the lead.
Down at the corner, I saw a flash of fire.
Pa! Pa!
Two crisp sounds echoed in the air-raid shelter corridor.
"You b * tch! I gave you a bite to eat and you still dare to snatch it! Believe it or not, I will kill you!"
The man's irritable voice sounded in the empty air-raid shelter tunnel, followed by the woman's miserable whimper.
" Someone?!"
I was surprised. I only felt that the woman's voice was somewhat familiar.
"Who?" Who's outside?!"
As I hesitated to enter, a roar came from inside.
At this moment, I realized that my shadow and Xiao Leng's shadow were reflected on the wall by the fire. The shadow was extremely tall, and the outline of the gas mask looked ferocious.
"I have no ill intentions."
I answered, lowering the composite crossbow and slowly taking a step forward.
Xue Anya?
When I saw the person inside, I couldn't help but freeze.
There were five people surrounding the bonfire. The woman lying on the ground was Xue Anya, my ex-girlfriend from college!
I remember when I broke up with her, she officially announced a rich second generation boyfriend, since then, I have never seen her again, let alone have a chance to recover.
Seeing us enter, the people inside immediately became cautious.
Xue Anya flipped up from the ground and looked at me. There was already a blood-red palm print on her face.
She was actually wearing a s*xy sailor suit with a skirt that was as short as her hips.
The fierce man beside her was also wearing a nightgown and seemed to be in a hurry to escape.
Xue Anya stared blankly at me. Her sorry state couldn't hide the beauty beneath her face.
I was stunned again. Did she recognize me?
However, I quickly denied this idea. Xiao Leng and I were wearing gas masks, so she couldn't recognize us.
But gradually, I realized that something was wrong. It wasn't just Anya Xue staring at me. The man in the dressing gown, the old man curled up, and the two strong men with their arms exposed in the corner.
Everyone's staring at me.
I took a step back and suddenly realized that they weren't staring at me, but at the waterproof bag on my waist!
