Sighing, I slipped out from beneath the covers, wrapping my cloak tightly around my shoulders. Maybe a walk would help. Just a short one, just enough to clear my mind.
The inn was quiet, the halls dark save for the dim lanterns flickering near the entrance. I stepped outside, the night air crisp against my skin. The town had settled into a hush, only the occasional distant murmur of guards patrolling the perimeter breaking the stillness.
I didn't mean to linger. I only wanted a moment to breathe, to be alone with my thoughts. But as I turned to retreat back inside, I caught sight of him.
Atlas stood near the stables, his back to me, speaking lowly with one of the guards. His posture was as rigid as ever, his presence commanding even in the solitude of the night. The light from the lanterns cast long shadows against his sharp features, making him look almost untouchable.
