“You and I are nothing to each other now.”

Atlas>>>

I heard it. The sound of something breaking.

Was it my heart?

I stood rooted to the floor, my body hollow, my mind fraying at the edges. Go to her. Stop her. My instincts screamed, but my limbs refused to obey.

I only watched as she walked away. I should've reached out, should've begged—should've done anything—but the look in her eyes… the finality in her voice…

There was nothing left. Nothing for me to cling to.

The doors shut behind her. A choked sound left my throat, something between a gasp and a sob. My knees buckled. The weight in my chest pulled me down, dragging me into the floor.

I had never felt weakness before. Not like this.

Not like something inside me had shattered beyond repair.

The weight of my body, of my failure, crashed into me like mountains tethered to my skin. I collapsed, palms pressing on my damp face, my breath ragged and sharp.
