What did I do?

ANNALISE'S POV

The wolf's corpse lay at my feet, its lifeless eyes still fixed on me, as if demanding an explanation I couldn't give.

What just happened?

My heart pounded in my chest, my hands still trembling from the strange, uncontrollable energy that had burst from me just moments ago.

Kaleb was staring at me. Not just staring—glaring. His expression was caught somewhere between shock and accusation and worry.

"Iris, what did you do?" His voice was low, sharp, barely controlled.

I swallowed hard, forcing myself to step back from the body. The metallic scent of bloodied fur still lingered in the air.

"I…" My voice came out weak. "I don't know."

And I didn't.

One second, the wolf had been lunging at me, teeth bared, claws aimed for my throat. I had felt the death coming, had almost braced for it. But instead of dying, something inside me had snapped.
