Ashley's eyes flashed. "And my father?" She exhaled with a bit of nervousness in her breath before continuing. "I have a father, right?" She stared at him with a shaky look in her eyes. The man lowered his head.

"It's best we do not talk about it." The light in her eyes died at that instant.

Adam tried to lighten up the situation by talking about her childhood. And it seemed to have worked. Although she did not remember a lot of things he spoke of, their conversation was hearty. To Ashley, it was a start. At the very least, she had found out a lot about her childhood that she had forgotten. Her childhood that felt meek and dark to her was suddenly bright.
