Chapter 13: Stuck with Me?

In the W City People's Hospital's inpatient department.

When Zheng Jun and Chen Cheng entered Wang Shuo's ward with beaming faces, Chen Cheng saw the last person he wanted to see.

A beautiful figure was sitting quietly on the sofa next to Wang Shuo's bed, engrossed in reading a book whose title was unclear.

Hearing the sound, she looked up at Zheng Jun and Chen Cheng, then lowered her head and continued reading.

Chen Cheng... was ignored by her.

It was Wang Shuo who looked up at the two brothers and greeted them with a smile, "You're here."

"Yeah, here's your breakfast."

Zheng Jun placed the breakfast he was holding on the table and dared not speak loudly anymore, trying to keep his voice down. He made a gesture with his mouth towards Wang Shuo, seemingly asking when Chen Xin had arrived.

Wang Shuo quietly raised his finger and made an 'eight' sign.

Zheng Jun widened his eyes, seemingly unable to believe it.

He looked at Wang Shuo, then at Chen Xin, back and forth several times, and then at Chen Cheng, before finally wearing a contemplative expression.

As for Chen Cheng, since seeing Chen Xin, he had lost all desire to speak, standing sullenly at the door, seemingly hesitating whether to enter or retreat.

"Cough, Lao Er." Zheng Jun coughed intentionally loud, "I see you're recovering quite well. Very good, keep up the good work, and strive to return to school and the dormitory as soon as possible. Our teachers have been mentioning you every day."

"Oh, you have a guest. Then you guys chat first. Lao Si and I have some things to take care of at the school. You know, it's the start of the semester, and we're swamped with all sorts of things. We'll take off first, haha, don't be polite, no need to see us out."

With that, he quickly turned to leave. When he reached the door, he pulled the still hesitating Chen Cheng without any hesitation.

"Slam."

The door closed heavily, and the room quickly returned to silence.

Wang Shuo watched, stunned, as Zheng Jun left after his exaggerated performance, then looked at Chen Xin, who was still reading intently, never lifting her head from the start, and found it hard to understand.

Was Chen Xin... really that intimidating?

Why did he think she was fine?

Silence... continued silence...

Quiet... continued quiet...

Chen Xin seemed completely immersed in her own world, ignoring everything and everyone around her.

"This... Miss Chen?"

Chen Xin didn't respond.

"Miss Chen?"

Chen Xin still didn't respond.

"Chen..."

"What is it?" Chen Xin looked up at Wang Shuo and asked in a calm tone.

Alright, Miss Chen was indeed as assertive as ever, interrupting people mid-sentence seemed perfectly normal for her.

"Nothing." Wang Shuo rubbed the back of his head, feeling a bit awkward. "I just wanted to ask if you'd like some buns?"

Yeah, they were fresh buns just delivered by Zheng Jun.

"No need." Chen Xin continued to lower her head, no longer acknowledging Wang Shuo.

"Heh... hehe..."

If you don't eat, I will! Wang Shuo hadn't eaten since waking up yesterday.

Skillfully taking out a cup of black rice porridge, he inserted a straw and took a satisfying sip, then picked up a large vegetarian bun and took a big bite. Wang Shuo felt instantly gratified.

Indeed, in this world, besides money, it was food that brought the most joy. As for whether the bun in his hand counted as gourmet food? Come on, let a hungry man who hasn't eaten for a month try it. He could taste delicacies from simple tree bark and roots.

Wang Shuo ate heartily, lost in the moment, completely oblivious to the fact that Chen Xin's beautiful eyebrows had furrowed in disapproval.

After finally waiting for Wang Shuo to finish his breakfast, Chen Xin's furrowed brows slowly relaxed as she tried to settle down and continue reading. However, she found that Wang Shuo had somehow obtained a bamboo stick and was now using it to pick at his teeth while staring at his phone screen, making occasional "tsk tsk" sounds.

Chen Xin's brows knitted slightly once more, but her good upbringing prevented her from speaking out.

After a few minutes, Wang Shuo seemed satisfied with his dental hygiene, put down his phone and the bamboo stick, leaned back against the bed, and reached for a magazine, seemingly ready to read.

Chen Xin's brows relaxed again as she focused on her book.

Suddenly, a loud music burst into Chen Xin's ears, causing her to start slightly.

She looked up and found that Wang Shuo was no longer on the bed, leaving only a phone screaming at the bedside.

From the adjacent bathroom, the sound of running water could be heard, interspersed with Wang Shuo's loud singing.

"Our love oh oh... Hululu... Once it's gone, it won't... Hululu hululu... come back!"

Chen Xin remained silent, looking calmly in the direction of the bathroom, her expression serene, but her fingers had already slightly deformed the book in her hand.

Brushing teeth, washing face, and attending to bodily needs.

Emerging from the bathroom feeling refreshed, Wang Shuo switched off the still howling phone.

It was then that he noticed Chen Xin looking at him quietly.

"This..." Wang Shuo said somewhat, "I just realized I hadn't brushed my teeth, so... I hope I didn't disturb your reading?"

Chen Xin felt a sudden fluctuation in the calm emotions she had cultivated over the years. She nodded slightly and grunted a single word: "Mhm."

"That's good... heh, it's a habit I've developed over the years. If I don't sing a couple of lines in the morning, I feel uncomfortable." Wang Shuo, who had climbed back into bed, explained seriously, "When I was at home, my mom found it annoying too, but she got used to it eventually... heh."

Chen Xin remained silent, seemingly immersed in her book again.

However, the slightly furrowed brows, the book that hadn't turned a page for a long time, and the occasional subtle glances towards Wang Shuo seemed to reveal something.

Wang Shuo didn't notice these things.

Seeing that Chen Xin was no longer paying attention to him, he was content to have some peace. He picked up the magazine he had thrown aside and pretended to read it intently, while his mind raced, recalling the transmission data he had just received the day before about the humanoid civilization's humanities. This information was even more fascinating and interesting than a movie.

Noticing that Wang Shuo hadn't caused any further disturbances, Chen Xin relaxed slightly, her furrowed brows slowly smoothing out, and she began to turn the pages of her book.

In the quiet room, bathed in sunlight, the two of them were immersed in their own worlds. Only the occasional sound of a page turning broke the silence, making the time feel so beautiful that one almost didn't want to disturb it.

Time passed slowly like this.

When Wang Shuo came to his senses again, it was already dusk. The sun had slanted low on the horizon, casting a reddish glow through the window that fell directly on Chen Xin's profile, making her seem to glow as she sat by the window.

Wang Shuo couldn't help but marvel at how truly beautiful this girl was. But looking at the time... Wang Shuo checked his phone and it was already past 7 PM.

"This... Miss Chen?"

Although Wang Shuo really didn't want to disturb Chen Xin, he had to speak up now or he couldn't guarantee how much longer she would stay.

This time, Chen Xin responded quickly. She looked up, her clear eyes showing confusion.

"Although I'm reluctant to say it, but Miss Chen, shouldn't you be going back?"

Chen Xin then came to her senses, looked at the color of the sky outside, stood up, marked her place in the book with a bookmark, and carefully put it back on the windowsill.

Wang Shuo was stunned. What did this mean?

As Chen Xin silently walked towards the door, Wang Shuo couldn't help but remind her.

"Miss Chen, you seem to have forgotten your book."

Chen Xin stopped in her tracks, and with Wang Shuo's reminder, she seemed to recall something.

"I'll be here at 8:30 tomorrow morning, and I'll bring you breakfast. Remember, don't touch my book."

With that, she walked out of the ward without looking back.

Wang Shuo could only watch as the door to the ward closed, feeling a bit confused.

Does this girl... want to stick with me?
