Letter

When he returned to his small wretched house in the Perigan neighborhood, Braden felt his stomach rumble. He was very hungry. He hadn't eaten that day and was hoping he would use the payment from errands to buy something to eat. But since he was beaten and fired, he had no money and so, he had no food at all

Braden lay down on his bed defeatedly and started drinking water. His weak plan to get his revenge on his father's killer had failed. It was years ago when Braden was still a little boy. His father, Micheal had just made a breakthrough with dolordine, a medicine that can ease the pain in cancer patients, helping the treatment to go through easily. Their family became multimillionaires with this breakthrough but making Elijah Durham his investor was the biggest mistake Micheal ever made.

When Micheal discovered that dolordine was addictive and can lead to death or insanity, Micheal wanted to end it and stop the sell of the drug because he was a good man. But Elijah said no, they were making soo much money from the dolordine and he didn't want it to end. But when Micheal was about to stop it, Elijah had him assassinated and then taken over his pharmaceutical company, Miller's Medicals ™ and the ownership of Dolordine™.

Braden was taken by his mother and they ran away to another local town, but Elijah still sent assassins to kill them. Their house was burnt and Braden's mother died. Only him survived because he hid in the underground bunker. He now has a burnt make on his back as proof of the fire that he survived.

Now, Elijah Durham doesn't know that Braden is still alive. Braden returned to the city of Renvar in search of his revenge. But he was a weak beggar and had no way to exert revenge on Elijah who was a billionaire living in a large mansion and working in one of the tallest skyscrapers. Not to talk of the large bodyguards always with him. Braden could do nothing to take him down and so he applied to be a mere errand boy in the company, hoping to get close enough to kill Elijah.

It was there he met Emilie and they had been dating for one and a half weeks before she cheated on him. So fast! His plan was a stupid plan and of course it didn't work. Now he was all alone, poor and hungry.

"Ugh!" His stomach grumbled the more. He had no choice, he was too hungry. Even though his neighbours hated him, the only way he could eat that day was if he pleaded with them for food.

Braden went outside and walked to the house that was closest to his own. His house was like an eyesore in that beautiful compound. All the houses were beautiful and very well built, but his was a single bedroom abandoned building that he was owing rent for.

Braden knocked on the door softly, so that he won't do anything to annoy them. When there was no answer he knocked a little louder. The door then opened forcefully.

A woman, tall and chubby came out with an angry look on her face. Her name was Madam Kelly. Her husband, Thomas was the richest in that neighborhood and she was the only one enjoying his money as they had no children. From the looks of it, Madam Kelly was already very angry.

"You! So you are the insolent fool that's pounding loudly on my front door?" she demanded.

"I wasn't pounding, miss. I only knocked quietly," Braden replied.

"So you are calling me a liar?" she asked. "Is this what the city of Renvar has become? Poor things like you have the guts to speak to people of class anyhow you like?"

"I'm sorry, miss. You are right. I was knocking loudly —"

"What is it that you want you idiot? Speak fast and get the hell out of my house." Gosh, this woman was so rude and wicked. But Braden was too hungry and he had to try.

"I was only wondering if you have some spare food or maybe some money so I can find what to eat, miss. Please, I will be ever grateful to you." Braden begged.

"Food?" Madam Kelly asked. "So you are disturbing me. Knocking on my door, to beg me food? Okay, you know what? I have some food for you here. Wait for me, I'm coming."

Braden's eyes lit up with hope as Madam Kelly walked back into her house. Thank God! Finally, he will have something to eat. But when Madam Kelly returned to the door, she wasn't holding a plate of food... or money. She was carrying a large basin.

...A large basin of water!

And she then poured it on Braden before he even had the time to react. "Get the hell out of my house, you piece of trash!" she yelled as she completely drenched him in water.

Braden walked hopelessly back to his house as the rest of the rich neighbours laughed continuously at him. He was drenched from head to toe.

When he entered inside the house, he fought with himself not to cry. He has reached his lowest point. No father, no mother, his girlfriend left him for his father's killer and worst enemy. And now, no food.

Braden was ready to give up. But there was one last thing left to do, before he gave up hope. One thing that he promised his mother.

Braden walked up to his small drawer in his room, he pulled it open and brought out a small special wooden box. His mother had given him this box when she hid him in the bunker and she told him to promise her he would open it when the time is right. There was no other time more right than now.

Braden took a deep breath and opened the box. The first thing his eyes saw was a key. It was a fancy key with a small teddy bear as the key holder. He kept the key aside and took out the other thing inside the box.

It was a letter.
