Hearing his words, Chuxue and Shui Sheng both showed expressions of despair and agony on their faces, but neither dared to interrupt.
"Men covet beauty, and women covet strength; it is their nature," the master said, "Do you think I keep Shui Sheng around because I enjoy tormenting him? Or to coerce him into doing my bidding? Do you believe my ranks lack for someone like him?" He paused, then answered his own question, "I've agreed to let Shui Sheng be a 'turtle slave' here merely to show Xueer that a man, who for a woman's sake gives up even his dignity, is not truly a man at all, and definitely not worthy of her."
"He is better than you..." At this point, Xueer muttered something under her breath, the latter part too quiet for anyone to hear.
The master, hearing this, turned and glared at her, "What are you saying? Speak up, don't be afraid."
