The little stunt I pulled there was a little stupid of me, but I just couldn't help myself. I've been is this weird bubble of happiness and sadness this past week. I just needed an outlet. A little outlet and the stupid fool was the perfect one for the job.
As nice as it was to let out some steam, it feels useless right now because my mom has been throwing glares my way all afternoon. Anytime she passes by and catch sight of me, she's pissed off. I'm not surprised the old fool went blabbing to my mom. They Keep wanting to push me, when I snap they get all defensive as if that wasn't their intention all along.
I hear a little ruckus around the main entrance so I head over there. It's my sister and her boyfriend's arrival. My sister looks confused, seeing as there are lots of people here. She turns to her boyfriend with a questioning gaze, he only shrugs.
I walk over to them, immediately she sees me, a huge smile lights up her eyes. This here is the major difference between I and my older sister. Everything else, we look alike aside from the fact that she's a woman and I'm a man. We have the same caramel skin, the same big dark brown eyes, the same hair type, I mean its almost unnerving. The majority difference between us though is our behavior.
She's bubbly and genuinely happy to see people, she talks to our cousin, she even talks to her friends from during university days. I don't do all that. It's a miracle I managed to snatch one friend. Well said friend who is drifting away.
While she was in university making friends and building connections, I was being a menace. I was sent to the school authorities by lecturers more times than I could count. Reckless, rude, arrogant, lazy in lecture, poor grades not from dullness but from lack of effort. The list goes on. I didn't even have time to make friends because of how much trouble I was causing.
I look at the said sister as she's walking towards me and I smile back at her. Titi is one of my favorite people on earth and her happiness is very important to me. "look who decided to show up for the family party for the first time in a long while."
I roll my eyes. "duh. You know mom bribed me or I wouldn't have set foot here. And I miss my big sister, I heard she was coming too that's why I came." I pulled her into a hug.
"Oh Tobi, I've missed you so much." She pulls back. "How long has it been? Weeks? Months?"
"almost a year. Since you took over as the acting CEO, you have abandoned your dear brother."
She laughs. "abandon is a strong word. I've just been so swamped with work."
I sigh, "yeah I understand."
She eyes me. "I heard mom and dad got you a house. Are you fricking kidding me?!" she squeals.
I chuckle. "yeah they did. It came with a catch though."
She roll her eyes. "you need to get married right?"
"exactly."
The corner of her lips lifts a bit in amusement. "don't they know you're still a child. I can't even imagine you being in a relationship."
"hey it hasn't gotten to that." I threw a weak glare her way.
She pulled her boyfriend away from people he was talking to. "my brother is over her."
Peter turns to me and pulls me in for a hug. "its been a while bro, how are you doing? How's business?"
I massage the back of my head. I actually like my sister's boyfriend. He's chill and I respect him. I don't know how he will react when he finds out I punched his brother though. Yeah, everything is alright. How about you? Work doing well?"
"yeah yeah. I'm just glad to be here today you know, seeing everyone both old and new faces."
I roll my eyes, sneaky fucker, as if he wasn't the one that organized this party.
"hey guys, the party is about to start, please come to the garden area." And unfamiliar man comes to announce, he must be one if the people my mom hired.
I turn to my sister and her boyfriend. "I guess it's time to head over." They nod and we walk to the garden area.
The place has been decorated. The garden is a small piece of land where my mom grow her flowers, different types of flowers. The place surrounding the garden has chairs and tables all over with flowers decorating the tables. The drinks I went to get the few hours ago are on the tables.
I grab one of the chairs to sit. My sister and her boyfriend walk towards where our parents are. Peter is pulled off by Ade. I just know the guy wants to whine and complain to his elder brother.
My sister gets to my mom alone and after all the greetings, my mom starts talking to Titi, she must be surprised at what she heard because both she and my mom turns my way. My mom glaring while Titi looks amused. I wink at them both. Titi bursts out laughing while mom looks ready to explode in anger.
I divert my eyes away from them to look around at the occupied tables and chairs. I'm not surprised quite a lot of people showed up though. My parents are popular, their parties are always crowded anytime they host any.
My eyes falls on a face that makes me feel both nauseous and murderous. My fucking uncle Ola. I always knew I didn't like people, but I think the one person that intensified the feeling is uncle Ola. I loath this man with every fiber of my being.
I know he hates me too because I've always called him out on his lies. I don't hold back when he comes to him. I quickly moved my eyes off him before he notices me and start blabbing.
I open one of the strongest alcohol on the table and pour half a glass.
"hey my brother told me what happened earlier." Peter says as he sits on a chair beside me.
I shrug. Not knowing what to say because if he's looking for an apology, he's not going to get one.
"look" he turns to me. "I'm sure you didn't just up and attack him without any provocation. I'm not here to confront you , I came to apologize."
I nod. "its alright. I hold no grudge against him."
"thank you." He pours a drink for himself. "so what happened?"
He's asking about the fight I guess. "he ordered me to go get drinks for the party, I refused then he started calling me names, I insulted him right back before turning to leave. I guess he couldn't bear the insult so he pulled me back and punched me. Then I retaliated."
"you see. I knew he was lying." He scowls.
I shrug. "it is what it is bro." I wag my brows. "are you ready for your proposal though?" I change the topic to try to lighten the his mood.
His face relaxes and brightens "yeah I am. I can't wait to marry Titi. She's it for me."
I nod. "I'm happy for you guys."
He laughs. "thanks. That's a lot coming from you though."
I smile. "You're welcome."
My father stands of and clinks his glass to garner the attention of his guests. Everyone quiets down and turns to him.
"Good evening my wonderful guests. Thank you for honoring my invites by coming here today. As much as we like to host parties and celebrate life as we've always done, today will be a little different because we have something special we'll like to share with you all." He turns to our table and looks at Peter. "I'll leave this to you." Dad says before going back to his seat.
Peter stands up and everyone turns to face him.
"good evening everyone." From there, he talks about how he and Titi met, how he fell in love with her and all that sappy nonsense. I look at Titi and there are streams of joy flowing down her face. I guess she must have known where the long speech is headed.
Peter walks to her and goes down on one knee. "will you marry me Titi?"
The crowd gasps, the ones that weren't expecting this.
Titi nods and a wobbly "yes" bare escapes her lips. She bites her lips before stretching out her fingers. He gently puts the ring on her fingers and place a light kiss on her fingers.
An echo of yes resounds around the place and people stands up to greet them.
I'm happy too. I have a big ass goofy smile on my face.
