Chapter 50: The Best Sword in the Village, the Best Horse in the Village, the Best Girl in the Village

Chapter 50: The Best Sword in the Village, the Best Horse in the Village, the Best Girl in the Village

After enhancing his skills and equipment, Su Yu's strength had soared to new heights! With the level 10 [Pet System] now unlocked, he was finally eligible to get his first pet.

Unfortunately, Nolan Village didn't have a [Pet Hatching Room], meaning Su Yu couldn't hatch his [Howling Moon Wolf Egg] until he reached the main city. He checked his remaining time in the game—about two hours left for today.

"Two hours... enough for a level 10 dungeon run. I might even get a chance to use a 'big speaker' for advertising my guild," Su Yu thought. With his plan in mind, he began walking back to Nolan Village. Aside from the dungeon, he also needed to turn in the first part of the [Glory of the Plantage Empire] quest.

---

At the entrance square of Nolan Village, Su Yu weaved through the crowd and approached the village elder.

"Hello, village chief! I'm here to hand in my quest," Su Yu said.

As soon as the words left his mouth, the bustling square fell silent. All the players vanished, leaving only Su Yu and the village NPCs. This was nothing new to Su Yu—when handling special quests, the game often created an isolated instance, where no other players could interfere.

"Ah, it's you, young adventurer!" The village chief greeted him warmly, his white beard curling in delight. "Did you bring back the [Head of the Howling Moon Wolf Leader]?"

Su Yu smiled and raised the wolf king's head. "Better than that. I got the wolf king's head."

The village chief's eyes widened in astonishment. His hands trembled as he caressed the wolf king's furry head. "By the gods! It really is the head of the wolf king! You've done it! You are, without a doubt, the mightiest adventurer I've ever met."

Su Yu, however, cut to the chase. "So, about my reward?"

"Oh! Right! Come with me, young one. The reward is at my house. You don't expect me to hand over a horse right here in the square, do you?"

"What do you mean by saying your house is 'quite big'?" Su Yu asked warily.

"Plenty of space to make a specimen out of this wolf king's head, of course!" the village chief explained, his eyes glinting with excitement. "Imagine hanging this in my hall! The village chief, old but still strong, slaying the wolf king. Oh, Old William's widow, Jenny, will finally look at me differently... Maybe even—"

Su Yu cringed internally. "I really don't need to know that."

Still, the quest was done, and the village chief could use the wolf king's head however he wanted.

---

At the village chief's house, Su Yu watched as the old man rummaged through boxes, finally producing a rusty long sword.

"Brave adventurer, as a token of my gratitude for your deeds, I present to you the best sword in our village!" the village chief declared proudly, holding up the worn-out sword.

Su Yu could hardly believe his eyes. The sword looked like it had survived a hundred years of neglect. But rather than complain, he reached out to take it. As soon as his hand grasped the hilt, the blade detached from the handle and clattered onto the stone floor.

Clang! Clang!

Su Yu stared at the empty hilt in his hand, speechless.

"My bad," the village chief said with a chuckle, completely unfazed. "I forgot to glue it back on after the last time I used it."

He took the hilt from Su Yu, fetched a bottle of glue, and reattached the blade. "Here you go! This sword has seen countless battles in my hands. It's never lost in ten years!"

Su Yu didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Was the village chief seriously trying to pass off this relic as a reward?

He sighed and inspected the sword's attributes.

**[The Best Sword in the Village (Consumable)]**

- **Uses remaining**: 10

- **Effect**: Point at a target and shout "Look at the sword!" The blade will break off and fall to the ground. If the target is not more than 10 levels higher than the player, they will be stunned for 3 seconds.

- **Note**: Don't forget to glue the blade back on after use!

Despite its ridiculous appearance, the sword's effect was surprisingly powerful. A guaranteed 3-second stun was no joke, especially for controlling groups or fighting bosses. Su Yu was genuinely impressed.

"Well, I guess it's not as useless as it looks," Su Yu muttered to himself.

---

The village chief beamed at Su Yu's satisfaction. "There's more! Follow me to the stables for your second reward."

"Wait, is this 'best horse' going to be as... unique as the sword?" Su Yu asked, his doubts rising.

"You'll see soon enough!" the village chief replied, dragging Su Yu along.

---

Two minutes later, Su Yu stood in front of a small red mare. His heart sank.

"This is a mare..." he said, his face blank. After the "Best Sword in the Village," he was bracing himself for more disappointment. But a mare? Among the majestic stallions nearby, the little mare looked particularly underwhelming.

"And what's wrong with mares?" the village chief asked, rolling up his sleeves. "You got a problem with female horses?"

"No, it's just that... aren't the leaders of herds usually stallions?" Su Yu gestured to the impressive stallions standing nearby.

The village chief's tone softened. "Well, the truth is, the quest rewards weren't always like this. Had you triggered this earlier, you would've gotten 'the best sword' and 'the best girl in the village.'"

"The best girl?" Su Yu blinked in confusion.

"That's right. The 'best girl' is Tina," the village chief explained. "She's the sweetest, most talented girl in the village. Recently, she passed the talent test and left for Oran City. She's going to become a unicorn knight one day."

"And the mare...?"

"This mare was Tina's favorite mount," the village chief said softly, petting the horse's mane. "Ever since Tina left, this little mare hasn't been the same. She's been losing weight, pining for her owner."

The village chief turned to Su Yu with a plea in his eyes. "Adventurer, will you take this little mare to Oran City and reunite her with Tina?"

Su Yu looked at the small, forlorn mare. After a moment, he nodded.

"Alright, I'll bring her to Tina," Su Yu said with a sigh.
