Light and Shadow 2: Beyond the Ordinary

Light and Shadow 2: Beyond the Ordinary

I’m in the middle of my class, but I can’t seem to focus on the lesson, because I keep thinking about Mimi and Nana’s reaction after I told them about my dream. They were speechless and beyond bewildered like they really knew something.

There was a strange fear in Mimi’s eyes, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that they knew more than they were letting on. Before I could ask for an explanation, Mimi stood up abruptly and left the dining room, and Nana quickly followed suit without a word.

It left me alone with a growing sense of unease. I sighed and shook my head. I shouldn’t think about that right now and should focus on our lesson. Maybe I’ll talk to Mimi and Nana later so I don’t overthink this too much, especially since this dream seems serious.

‘Based on their reactions.’

I forced myself to listen until the class ended. I gathered my things and left and since it was my last subject, I planned to go home right away. As usual, I wandered the hallway alone, and walking alone through the hallways was a familiar routine.

I don’t have many friends at school, and I prefer it that way. My routine is simple: school and home since Mimi and Nana are very protective of me and don’t like me staying out late. I understand why; they want to keep me safe.

Every minute in this place feels like a threat to someone like me. Someone different and not from this realm. I know I’m extraordinary—the three of us are extraordinary, and something dangerous is after us.

I hurried down the hallway, but as I turned a corner, I bumped into another student. The impact was so hard that we both fell to the ground with a thud. I groaned as I rubbed the sore spot on my arm and looked up to see who I had collided with.

“Oh, my! I’m sorry!”

She stood up and offered me a hand. When our skin made contact, I felt a strange sensation. I stared at her concerned expression, realizing that it was clear that only I had felt it, while she was too oblivious to the strange connection I felt.

“Are you okay, miss?” She asked, her gaze flitting nervously behind me as if she was being followed by someone scary.

“Y-Yeah… how about you?” I replied, trying to sound casual while forcing a smile. I glanced in the direction she was looking but didn’t see anything unusual. There was nothing there, but her strange behavior made me feel uneasy.

She looked back at me, her eyes wide with fear, but she forced a smile. “Sorry again!” She apologized before quickly dashing off, leaving me alone standing in the hallway.

I followed her with my eyes, but I also noticed that many students were looking in my direction. However, I didn’t pay much attention to them and focused on watching the woman until she disappeared. She seemed to be running away from something…

‘Something frightening…’

I shook my head, deciding not to get involved in other people’s business. I should go home now because I still need to talk to Mimi and Nana. But then why couldn’t I start walking, even though I wanted to? I shook my head in frustration.

But before I knew it, I found myself following her without even thinking about it. Something was off. I wasn’t sure where she was going, so I relied on my instincts to guide me, despite the nagging feeling that I shouldn’t be following her.

‘I’m sorry, Mimi and Nana. But I feel like that lady needs help.’

I found myself at the far end of the campus, where the old, abandoned buildings loomed. Students were forbidden to enter this part of the school, making it eerily quiet. The silence was almost deafening as I scanned the area, trying to spot the woman.

It was strange that she would go here, so far away from the main part of the campus. The old buildings stood tall, their windows dark and empty, like hollowed-out eyes, while the only sound was the howling wind that seemed to echo through the empty halls.

It was a long way from the main building, and I couldn’t help but feel a shiver run down my spine. But the silence was shattered by a blood-curdling scream. A woman’s terrified shriek echoed through the abandoned buildings, urging me to run towards the source of the sound.

Without hesitation, I ran towards the sound, my instincts telling me something was wrong. The air seemed to crackle with a dangerous energy. I could feel the fear radiating from her voice, and I knew I had to find her.

I also can feel a sinister presence lurking in the shadows, warning me of the danger ahead. Impatient, I used teleportation to find her and when I found her, I wasn’t surprised to see her being attacked by a ‘hybris demon’.

A hybris demon, a creature that hunts immortals for their blood. They’re the reason why Mimi and Nana are so strict with me. These demons are a threat to both immortals and mortals here mortal realm, and I’ve heard they’ve been more active recently.

But then, I also saw another figure, a man who suddenly attacked the hybris demons. However, I felt nothing towards him, which made me suspicious. It seemed like he knew how to conceal his presence from everyone.

Their movements were a blur as they battled behind the old building. Seizing the opportunity, I rushed to the woman’s side. She was pale and weak, and she jumped when I made contact. She also looked traumatized because of what happened.

“Hush now. Take it easy,” I whispered, helping her to her feet. “We need to get out of here,” I added, glancing around to see where the mysterious man and the hybris demons had gone.

But they were nowhere to be found. There was no sign of them until a moment later a deafening clap of thunder shook the sky. The woman and I were both startled, and it was the signal for us to make our escape. I helped her up and we ran as fast as we could.

‘There’s only one thing on my mind right now: leave this place with her.’
