Chapter 16: The Abyss Beckons

The air grew colder as the Guardians pressed onward, the once vibrant colors of the mountains fading into a muted gray. The path became less defined, narrowing until they were walking single file along a rocky ledge that dropped off into a seemingly bottomless abyss. A thick mist hung low, obscuring their view and adding to the oppressive atmosphere.

Emily felt a growing unease settle in her stomach. The test had awakened something within her, a deeper connection to the land and its secrets, but it also filled her with dread. Mia stepped forward, her eyes scanning the mist. "What if we’re walking into a trap?" she asked, her voice trembling slightly. "We’ve already faced so much. What more could they want from us?"
