Job Application

At the entrance of the marquis's castle, Caesar was stopped by two guards.

"What do you want? This is the residence of Marquis Arthur; ordinary people are not allowed inside!"

The guards shouted, beginning to shoo him away.

Caesar slightly lifted his hood, revealing a handsome face adorned with a smile. "Hello, my name is Caesar. Is there a need for anyone here?"

The two guards were momentarily taken aback.

They took a closer look at the young man before them, who was strikingly good-looking.

"Are you here to seek a position at the marquis's residence?"

One guard asked suspiciously, "Who did you serve before?"

As one of the seven royal clans, it wasn't uncommon for people to come seeking refuge at Arthur's castle, and the royal families welcomed capable individuals to join them.

To put it simply, it was akin to a job application. Despite the royal clans being known for their domineering and forceful ways, wielding violence to maintain control, ordinary nobles were still eager to join them.

For example, Count Stephen had sought the Joseph clan when he was still a viscount, establishing countless achievements and being promoted multiple times, eventually receiving his own fief!

Such individuals were familiar sights to the guards.

After all, for ordinary nobles who wished to stand out, the best way was to seek out the royal families!

"I once served Count Stephen of the Joseph clan."

Caesar's expression revealed a hint of sorrow. "But a few days ago, the old count passed away, and his fief was reclaimed, leaving me in a state of homelessness…"

As he spoke, he presented a brooch bearing the emblem of the Stephen family—a brooch worn by James's grandfather, father, and himself.

"Life is unpredictable; please accept my condolences."

The guard took the brooch and offered a token of comfort before handing it to his companion. "You go verify this. If his identity checks out, ask the head steward if he's still taking in anyone."

The companion nodded, taking the brooch and turning to head into the castle.

  Caesar calmly observed their actions.

If he were a commoner, he would have been driven away by now. However, as an ordinary noble, he still enjoyed privileges that commoners could not access, even as the lowest-ranking baron.

  …

A few minutes later, the guard returned, handing the brooch back to Caesar.

"Your identity checks out. Your name is Caesar, right? The head steward has given you three options: first, you can join the castle's guard; second, you can serve as a servant to the princess, helping with various tasks; or lastly, you can be the librarian."

The guard spoke politely to Caesar.

Caesar blinked, wondering if there were no options for becoming a consort?

Ahem~ After seriously considering the three choices, he outright rejected the first two.

Whether as a bodyguard or a servant, he would have to interact with people regularly, and any slight misstep could lead to trouble… Caesar didn't want to be disturbed.

"Could you tell me more about the librarian position? I can't fight and I don't serve people; I just want a more relaxed job."

  Caesar inquired.

Upon hearing this, both guards exchanged disparaging glances, thinking Caesar was lacking ambition!

He had directly eliminated the two most promising options.

Being a bodyguard would offer opportunities to make achievements in battle and get promoted; serving as a servant could lead to gaining the master's favor and soaring to great heights.

The librarian position, just by its name, seemed to offer no chance for advancement.

Thus, both men mentally labeled Caesar as a "slacker."

"Ahem, the princess's library is quite large, with many books, so someone is needed to manage it regularly… I advise you, if you truly want to achieve something in the future, the best choice would be to join the guard."

The guard puffed out his chest proudly. "A real man should don armor, wield a sword, and slay enemies to earn merit!"

"Well said! That's the choice of a truly spirited man!"

Caesar nodded and replied seriously, "So, I'll be the librarian."

  The guard: "…"

He wasn't some hot-headed youth full of reckless dreams.

What was so good about fighting and killing? Wouldn't it be better to quietly cultivate and grow stronger?

  …

A few minutes later, Caesar met the head steward of the marquis's castle, who was an earl.

"My name is Isaiah, but everyone calls me Old Steward Isaiah."

Old Steward Isaiah was dressed in a magnificent purple robe, exuding an impressive aura, his gaze sharp and penetrating.

As he led Caesar toward the library, he cautioned, "Although you'll be managing the library for the princess, you will likely have little opportunity to see her. The library contains millions of books, so be careful while organizing them; don't damage anything."

  Caesar nodded. "Understood, thank you."

From Old Steward Isaiah, he gathered a wealth of information.

The library actually belonged to Marquis Arthur, but unfortunately, it had been forcefully claimed by Stephanie.

After she finished reading the books in her room, she would send someone to retrieve more from the library and have the ones she had already read returned.

The work Caesar had to do was quite simple.

Whenever the princess sent someone to collect books, he needed to assist in finding every book she wanted without missing a single one.

Whenever someone came to return books, he had to ensure each one was placed back in its original position correctly.

Additionally, there would occasionally be visits from other royal princes and princesses who would come to read or borrow books; he would only need to tidy up afterward.

Beyond that, there wouldn't be any further responsibilities.

Dusting and cleaning would be handled by the servants.

  …

"We're here! This is the place."

They stopped in front of a large building.

The structure resembled a grand library, only two stories tall but covering a vast area.

Old Steward Isaiah handed Caesar a set of keys. "These are the keys to all the library doors. Your room is inside as well, and meals will be delivered to you daily. Your only job is to guard the library closely; if anyone trespasses, just call for the guards."

Caesar nodded and accepted the keys.

Once Isaiah finished giving his instructions, he turned and left Caesar to his duties.

  Creak—

Caesar opened the grand library door.

Stepping inside, he looked around, taking in the sight of towering bookshelves, each three meters high and five meters long, filled to the brim with books, densely packed and stretching endlessly…

This job was not as simple as it seemed.

It required the librarian to be well-read and have a good memory, knowing the title of every book and its exact location.

  …

On the second floor, there was another entire level filled with books.

Caesar's room was located on the second floor, spacious and expansive—twice the size of the steward's room at Stephen's castle.

It was fully furnished, exquisitely decorated, and surrounded by a tranquil environment.

  Bang!

Caesar took out his "Love Coffin" and set it up properly.

  "System, check in!"

"Ding! Check-in successful. Congratulations, host, you have obtained: Beast Essence Blood x3!"

Caesar retrieved the three drops of beast essence blood and snapped his fingers.

  Flap flap—

Billy cautiously flew in through the window.

This was Arthur Castle, presided over by a marquis; it wouldn't dare to be too ostentatious. If it were discovered that a powerful magical beast had infiltrated the castle, it would certainly be hunted down.

"You've been at the peak of the Beast level for quite a while now. If you feel confident, you can find a place to attempt a breakthrough," Caesar said with a smile, tossing the three drops of essence blood to Billy.

  "Chirp~"

  Billy nodded its little head.

Thanks to the countless drops of beast essence blood Caesar had given it, its advancement speed was quite remarkable.

Once Billy broke through to the "General Beast" level, it would be equivalent to a marquis-level vampire.

  After Billy left,

Caesar lay down in the coffin and closed the lid.

He began his meditative practice, allowing the power of blood and energy within him to flow gently as he prepared for the breakthrough to the Four-Winged Marquis.

In the Duke clan, at Arthur Marquis's castle, he would embark on a new journey.
