Chapter 25 (End)

A few months after their wedding, Violet gave birth to twins, a girl and a boy. They delighted their father, who became more than protective. They had received tons of wedding gifts that they still hadn't opened. Being on maternity leave, Violet decided to devote her morning to opening their presents with their children in their respective cribs.

"So, let's see this one...ah, that's for you, my loves. A box of little toys."

She opened a second gift, which was a gigantic designer bag, and found inside about ten shoes, a box of jewelry, and lingerie.

"Oh no, that's not possible."

She picked up her phone and called her best friend. She immediately expressed her joy at hearing from her.

"Yes, I'm happy to finally hear from you too."

"But?"

"But I'd like to know why you spent so much on shoes, and all that for me?" It's way too much for me, plus, the shoes are mostly heels. And you know I'm not a big fan of heels that high.

"Sure, but you're a lady now and you have to wear heels more often. Maybe not six inches, but you know what I mean. So, at the next family party I throw, I want you to wear one of those heels. One of those gorgeous shoes, and don't forget the kids' clothes."

"Because you bought outfits for the kids too?! But how many stores did you clear out for us, exactly?"

"Don't exaggerate either. Go on, finish unpacking and call when you're done."

"Why? Do you have something to tell me?"

"No, I'm just going to stop by to see my darlings and help you relax."

Violet glanced at her twins and smiled to herself.

"My darlings, your godmother is definitely one of a kind."

"Don't speak ill of me to my loves. I have to be a perfect godmother."

"You're already a perfect godmother and a wonderful sister, so now get off the phone and let my wife rest, Layla."

Violet turned around at the deep voice and smiled when she saw her husband. He kissed her before hugging her. He then went over to kiss his children before taking her phone and looking around the living room.

"Did she really send all that?"

"You know your sister well enough to know that it's not the quantity that matters to her. And your mother sent some too, and my mother too."

"In short, almost the whole family. And you?"

"What about me?"

He moved closer to her and hugged her, stroking her hair.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine, Cameron. I had some stomach aches, but they've lessened over the days." And the kids are super well-behaved, so I sometimes get a chance to rest. But tell me, aren't you supposed to be at work at this time?

- Yes. But I wanted to stop by to see how you were doing at home alone.

- I already told you, we don't need a nanny. I can take care of the kids just fine even at work. And that won't bother Layla; she loves taking care of them when I'm busy with patients.

- Oh, because you've already tried it?

- Yes, a week before I decided to take my leave, I went to work with them, and Layla was already there before me. We handled it like bosses.

- So, if I'm counting correctly, a week after you gave birth, you went to work.

- That's kind of right, yes.

Cameron stared at her for a moment before sighing. - I forgot how crazy my wife could be sometimes.

- It's true, but you love me anyway.

- More than anything.

- When you're done with your love story, maybe you can let me hug my darlings.

They turned around to see that Layla was already there with her things, waiting eagerly to hug the little ones.

- I really need to change the door entry code.

- Rohr, don't be like that. I have every right to come and greet the little ones; I'm their godmother after all. And I'm not so stupid as to reveal the code to a stranger or anyone, even family.

- Thank goodness. Yes, you have every right, even if you've already visited them four times this week.

- I'm also helping your wife rest and relax. You can go back to work with peace of mind. - All right, I'll leave you two to yourselves.

Her sister stopped her for a moment with a smile and hugged her best friend before speaking again.

- First, I have some good news to tell you before you leave.

- I see that from your smile. Wait, I'll call the family.

- They already know, Cameron. I was waiting to come to your house to tell you too.

- Oh... all right. We're listening.

- I'm getting married.

The house fell silent for a long moment before her best friend hugged her.

- I"I hope the lucky one is Maxime," his brother said, smiling at him.

"Of course, who else? Then?"

"Then it's with great pleasure that we'll come to your wedding, and I'll even do the same thing as you. I'll organize your wedding with my dear husband. Isn't that right, Cameron?"

"It will be with pleasure. It looks like the family is growing," Cameron added before glancing gently at his sleeping children and hugging the two most important women in his life.
