"Arrgh,"
He shouted, slamming his hand on the desk as he watched the screen before him vividly display the word "YOU LOSE" in red with another text "Retry" underneath it.
Miles had been playing this game for the past 4 years ago, when it was released by a gaming company called ECHO, with the name of the game called "AGP Online".
Ever since then, he's been so obsessed with the game that he couldn't go a day without it, until one particular incident, but that's a story for another time.
Now, what happens to be trending currently on all the gaming platforms as well as ECHO's website is the release of their upcoming game called "Eden's Legacy," with them claiming the game to be a world of magic.
But the captivating and mind-blowing fact of it all was that the game was a VRMMORPG. ECHO had made their helmets supplied to almost every gaming store for public purchase since the game was going to be released at 6 PM that day.
*Ding Dong*
He had ordered a new helmet and had been expecting it since God knows when.
He got up from the chair, almost running to the screen, showing the front door.
On the screen was a guy with a box in his arms, looking at the camera professionally. Miles pressed the intercommunication system to speak.
"Hello, how can I help you?" he said, fidgeting like a young child.
"Good evening, I have a parcel for Miles Levine, is this the right address?"
"Yes, it is. Come right up, second floor." He answered as he clicked the door lock button.
The door to the apartment complex unlocked with a loud buzz, and the delivery guy entered the building.
After walking up for a while, he walked to the apartment door with the right number and knocked.
Miles was ready and waiting by the door, shaking his hands like a kid on his birthday. He opened up as soon as the man knocked.
"Okay I would like you to sign here and the parcel is yours," he said, stretching a pen and a delivery form to Miles.
He quickly took hold of the deliverer's pen and signed the form of delivery before grabbing the package and hurriedly saying goodbye to the guy, almost slamming the door shut. He swore he heard the guy laugh at the other side of the door before leaving.
Miles ran to his laptop, grabbing a knife on the way. He sat down in his chair and started unwrapping his box with kid gloves, making sure he didn't damage the contents.
Inside the delivery box was the game box, resting on another box, this one white, bearing the image of the virtual reality helmets. Inside that box were his new helmet and its wires, carefully packed.
He quickly unpacked all of it and plugged the helmet in, starting the software updates on his laptop. It took him 2 good hours to install everything and the device drivers to have his VR helmets active.
With that completed, he installed the game next, which took half an hour to get completely installed.
Next, he opened up the game and quickly created an account for himself since ECHO had made that function accessible.
With that done, it was close to dinner time, and since he had something to do that night, he decided to order. Once his food got delivered, he ate quickly while looking through the gaming forums, with a countdown of twenty minutes till the game launch.
ECHO recommended on their forum that players should log in fifteen minutes before the launch to create their characters, since that function was going to be unlocked for them by that time.
He quickly strapped the helmet on his head and laid back on his gaming chair. As the clock was 5:45 PM, he tapped the launch button on the helmet to start the game.
With the game launched alongside the helmet, that was the last thing Miles saw before everywhere went dark and he felt like he was being sucked into something and then free falling for a short while before everything stabilized again.
In front of Miles, it was nothing but pitch black before everywhere started materializing.
In front of Miles stood an Old Elf with white long flowing beards in golden robes.
"Welcome to the world of Eden, young one. Are you ready to conquer your enemies and experience the adventure of a lifetime?"
"Yes I am,"
"Your adventure will be filled with unknown dangers and enemies beyond mortal intellect. Are you ready to face such challenges?" He asked.
"Yes, I am ready."
"Okay, but what shall you be called, Young one?" He asked as an empty bar appeared before him.
Over the bar, the word 'Enter your Name' was written. Miles used the name he used in AGP Online. He typed in the name and clicked on confirm.
"That is a fine name, Young Mammon, now which race would you like to belong to?"
Immediately he finished speaking everywhere and started glitching, including the old elf.
His eyes widened with shock at the sudden glitch.
"No, no, no, no, no, was this supposed to happen?!" he thought in a panic.
Everywhere continued glitching until like 10 seconds later before it stabilized.
*Ding*
"You have successfully activated the Glitch system and will now have more options to add to your character," the old man said before a screen appeared before Mammon.
"Now, where were we?" he muttered.
