Miles grabbed his fork and dug in. He devoured his bacon and French toast, drenching it with maple syrup. Tiny pockets of powdered sugar exploded in his mouth with each occasional bite, and he had to hold back the rapturous food moans that wanted to leave him.
"Hmmm, so good, it's like heaven rained divinity into my mouth," he said, while Anna just laughed.
"I can't agree more," Ezra said.
Soon, they finished eating, and Ezra cleared the table. She came back five minutes later with a plate containing sandwiches and a cup.
"The only thing I can give, I hope you like it. I did it myself," she said before handing him the plate.
"Grilled cheese sandwiches with hot chocolate. I guess I can make room for more in my stomach. Ezra, this is okay by me. Thanks," he said before devouring the sandwich and washing it down with hot chocolate.
"Thanks, sis, that was good."
"You're welcome, big brother Miles."
"Would you like to watch a movie, or do you want to go home?" Anna interjected.
"Seems fine by me."
"Okay, I'll go set it up. Do you guys want
some popcorn?"
"After what I've had tonight, I think this guy's gotta rest," he said, pointing at his stomach.
"What about you, Ezra?"
"I think I'll pass. Don't want to get indigestion in the middle of the night and start giving out weird smells from my mouth," she replied.
"Okay, you can come when you're ready," Anna said before walking away.
"So, Brother Miles, what is special about the next two months to me?"
"You mean September? Let me think... Oh, I remember! Your birthday is on the 27th. Come on, I can't forget."
"Yeah, better not forget like last year," she said, almost fuming.
"Come on, I didn't forget! I wasn't around, that's why. Besides, I'll never miss it this time around."
"You better not," she said, pointing her finger at his face.
"That's just an empty threat, but I'll come around, don't worry."
"Ooof, what was that for?" he asked, holding his ribs.
"That's to tell you that it's not an empty threat. Now let's go watch some movies," she said before taking his hand and leading him to the sitting room.
They watched an action movie, and halfway through, Ezra fell asleep on his chest.
"Hey, let me take her to her room," Anna whispered, not wanting to wake Ezra.
"Don't worry, I've got this," he replied, gently lifting Ezra before heading to her room.
"Thank you," Anna mouthed.
He opened the door to Ezra's room and gently placed her on her bed, covering her with the duvet. He looked at her face to see a small smile on her lips as she slept.
'I guess she's having a good dream,' he thought.
He went out of the room and joined Anna as she resumed the movie. They finished the movie later, and Miles got up to take his leave.
"Thanks, Anna. I really appreciated what you did for me."
"Oh, come on, that was nothing. Besides, that's what families are for, right?"
"Yeah, I'll take my leave now. Goodnight, Mom."
She looked speechless after that but just hugged him before releasing him.
"Yeah, goodnight, son. Sweet dreams," she said before he started taking his leave.
'I had always wanted a son, while I didn't even know I had one already,' she thought before walking inside and closing the door behind her.
Miles got home in about ten minutes and checked everywhere just in case before heading straight to his bedroom and crashing directly onto his bed.
'Today was a long day, might as well get some good and quality sleep,' he thought before shutting his eyes.
--That same night, 9:17 p.m.
'I hope to meet him there,' she thought as she walked hurriedly to the alleyway.
By the time she got there, there was no one present.
*Sigh*
"If not for that dumb ass who was delaying me, even when I told him I had somewhere to be," she murmured as she walked away, annoyed.
She then took her phone from her handbag, ordered an Uber, and filled in the location where she needed to be dropped.
She waited before hearing a guy's voice behind her.
"Hey, beautiful, I've been noticing you for a while now, and I was hoping I could get your number?" he asked, scratching his head, making it obvious he was nervous.
"I'm sorry, but I already have someone," she lied.
"Also, have you been stalking me?" she continued.
"No, no, I just saw you from behind, that's all."
At that instance, her Uber arrived.
"Bye," she said as she entered the car, while the guy waved at her.
'Guys, and their cunning ways,' she thought as the car drove off.
--Back to the Main Character.
Miles woke up around 7 a.m. His eyes were red, sleep still evident as he forced his body into the bathroom. After splashing cold water on his face, he regained full consciousness.
He brushed his teeth before heading straight to the kitchen to make himself a cup of coffee. He went to the sitting room, sat down on the couch, and picked up the TV remote to watch a movie.
He didn't have any class today and didn't bother about reading. He didn't need to since he could remember everything he had read the past few weeks. Sometimes, he even thanked his stars that he was a nerd.
After a few hours of watching movies, his stomach growled, reminding him that he hadn't eaten at all. He went to the kitchen and microwaved a frozen meal he had bought the day before.
After the five-minute reheating time, he pulled out the meal and ate it in front of the counter and microwave. He then walked back to his room and began scrolling through his phone.
He wanted to continue playing the game but had to give his body time to process the food before diving back in. After 20 minutes, he decided it was time to get back into the game.
He turned his gaming laptop on and sat down on the chair.
