Chapter 33: Arriving Sea King

As evening sank over the broad sea, the horizon darkened, and the air grew heavy with saline and expectation. Having left the eerie shadows of Port Alnwick behind, the Horizon's Call sailed into waters glistening with an ethereal brightness.

 

At the bow, Seraphine focused her eyes on the wide swath ahead of her. Her thoughts merged the warnings from the depths, the omens from the harbor, and the mysterious muttering of old knowledge to signal a new, strong presence.

 

The ocean itself seemed to be moving tonight, a vitality under the surface like a living heartbeat.

Rowan slid next to her silently. Usually so gentle and steady, his eyes suddenly showed a tightness that contradicted his serene façade. He said, almost to himself, "I feel it," as he watched the undulating waves. "Something approaching..." anything past any story we have heard.
