Chapters 40: New Horizons

The Horizon's Call cut a straight line away from Port Alnwick as the first light of morning broke over the unceasing blue. The promise of a new beginning had taken place of the scars of past conflicts and terrible sacrifices.

Every soul on board knew that, at last, the storm had passed and a fresh journey awaited, so the salted air on deck was tinged with expectancy and optimism.

Standing at the prow, Seraphine watched the line where the sea met the sky. Under the early sun, the wide and mysterious water shimmered with bits of gold and turquoise, its surface moving.

 

She had arrived to this turning point from the weight of the Coral Crown, the grief of parting with its corrupting influence, and the ceaseless fights waged against the ancient forces—burdles of the past.
