Chapter 9

_Chapter 9: Protective Instincts_

Axel swiftly pulled Emily behind him, shielding her from the SUV.

"Stay close," Axel whispered, his eyes scanning the surrounding area.

The SUV slowed, its tinted windows reflecting the fading light. Emily's heart pounded in her chest.

Suddenly, the SUV sped off, leaving them in an unsettling silence.

Axel turned to Emily, his expression fierce. "I won't let anyone hurt you."

Emily's fear began to dissipate, replaced by a sense of safety in Axel's presence.

As they walked home, Axel's protective instincts were on full display. He scanned the streets, his arm wrapped around Emily's shoulders.

Emily felt a flutter in her chest. "You don't have to do this, Axel."

Axel's gaze locked onto hers. "I want to, Emily. You're mine to protect."

Mine. The word sent shivers down Emily's spine.

At her doorstep, Axel lingered, his eyes burning with intensity.

"Tonight, stay inside. Lock your doors."

Emily nodded, her voice barely above a whisper. "I will."

Axel's lips brushed against her forehead. "I'll be watching over you."

As Emily entered her house, she felt Axel's protection wrap around her like a shield.

But little did she know, danger lurked in the shadows, waiting to strike.
