After some time observing SCP-9743, unconscious, and sleeping in the ground of the containment cell. For now, all the work was remain observing how SCP-9743 sleeps and remains sleeping peacefully, and once it wakes up, would be when they would have to tense, and be ready for how it would react.
The hours pass, and the Research Team remain observing, no matter how bored they may be. But after few hours, finally, SCP-9743 woke up, slowly, as first it yawned silently and opening with high size it's mouth, not insanely big but slightly more than a normal human.
The Research Team instantly got prepared after Dr. Alexander Grimm called them to be ready, as SCP-9743 finally woke up. They were tensed, waiting to see what SCP-9743 would do first, and they saw the first thing SCP-9743 did, was get up and look around.
SCP-9743's reaction was of curiosity and wonder. He looked around, questioning multiple things, but then, he noticed the cameras, and stared at them directly. Remaining with his neutral dead expression, he remained staring at the cameras of the corners.
The Research Team wondered what he was doing, so Dr. Alexander Grimm called Dr. Sophia Adler, who after short time, arrived, and her conclusion was short.
Dr. Sophia Adler: "SCP-9743 is studying his surroundings, in a search for something we unknow."
Dr. Sophia Adler couldn't provide a big explanation, by her lack of information about SCP-9743, as after all, it was his first day being contained. So for in need of more information to understand SCP-9743, Dr. Alexander Grimm decided to call Director Elena Mallory, for take a D-class.
After some short time, maybe few minutes up to ten minutes, the guards brought a D-class, and Dr. Alexander Grimm opened the containment cell. Quickly, D-class had to enter inside the containment cell, and after entering the slightness, the containment door closed behind the D-class.
SCP-9743 remained still, observing the D-class, both staring at each other. The D-class was afraid of what could happen, while SCP-9743 remained with his neutral dead expression. Despite not have done anything, he was giving a thrill of death around him.
Suddenly, SCP-9743 rises his arms, but was just to cross them in front of his chest, while his expression changed slightly, now to one of boredom and annoyment.
SCP-9743: "... What do you want?"
The Research team got surprised by the calmness of SCP-9743, despite his expression, seemed docile in his interaction, but gave the feeling of him wanting to go straight to the point, by his acting of non talkative, and be of low words and short talk.
The D-class remained nervous and silent, unknowing what to do, but knowing that it needed to respond, but with what? But then, it tried.
D-class: "I was... Sent here, just that. I don't want.. Anything exactly, but... They do."
The Research Team expected to SCP-9743 to react, but he didn't. The interaction remained talkative and docile so far, but the feeling... They knew at any point, SCP-9743 was going to do something to the D-class, now classified as SCP-9743-1.
SCP-9743: "Well, in that case, why are you here?" Then, turned to look at one of the cameras directly. "And not that 'them' you just mentioned?"
The Research Team got it now, the look SCP-9743 towards the cameras, was waiting for them to act, and now with what SCP-9743 said, while looking at the camera directly, made it clear. He wanted them to act, and not lose time sending others for them.
The Research Team hesitated in taking a decision, as they couldn't risk, so they remained only observing. They were just going to wait for obtain all the information they could, and only then, decide what they could do with SCP-9743, and what he would be able to do.
SCP-9743-1: "I.. I don't know. They only study things like.." He stopped at mid sentence, seeing how SCP-9743 turned from looking at the camera, to then at him.
SCP-9743: "'Things like...'. Like what exactly? I know you wanted to say like me, but what you wanted to mean with that exactly?"
SCP-9743's tone was some sort of calm, but it was also giving the feeling of being aggressive in a defensive position. Any mistake, and the D-class was going to find out what SCP-9743 could do. SCP-9743-1 hesitated, in an attempt to change the subject and find a way to relax the atmosphere.
SCP-9743-1: "Like... Unique as you are. All SCPs are very unique, some in their own way, and-" But then is stopped, as SCP-9743 interrupted the D-class.
SCP-9743: "Do yourself a favor and leave. You're only making this worse to yourself."
The D-class turned around, and went to the containment door, waiting it for be opened. After a moment, slowly, the door was opened, and the guard took the D-class. SCP-9743 remained in his place, seeing how the door of his containment cell closed, and then, turned to look at the cameras again.
While SCP-9743 remained still, with his arms crossed, and staring at the cameras, the Research Team was split in one part, observing, and other part filling the inform of the first interaction done with SCP-9743.
Evaluation Report by Dr. Alexander Grimm on SCP-9743's First Interaction
Subject: SCP-9743
Evaluator: Dr. Alexander Grimm
Date: 03/15/2022
Pre-Interaction Observations:
SCP-9743 remained unconscious for a prolonged period, its state described as remarkably tranquil and passive. Its slumber was unbroken by external stimuli, raising questions about its metabolic and neurological processes. No abnormal energy signatures or disruptions were detected during its sleep phase, suggesting a self-contained anomaly with latent potential.
Initial Awakening:
SCP-9743's awakening displayed subtle markers of awareness. The extended yawn, with the slightly exaggerated mouth opening, implied physiological traits distinct from typical humanoids but not grotesquely divergent. SCP-9743 exhibited no immediate hostility upon waking; rather, its behavior was characterized by curiosity and methodical observation of its environment.
Its direct focus on the surveillance cameras suggests a deliberate attempt to establish visual contact, conveying a calculated intelligence and self-awareness of its containment. The prolonged gaze seemed to challenge the observer, demanding acknowledgment of its presence.
First Verbal Interaction:
Upon the D-class entering the containment cell, SCP-9743 demonstrated patience, maintaining eye contact and an unmoving posture. Its initial question, "What do you want?" was delivered with calm assertiveness, setting a tone of control over the exchange. This contrasts starkly with many SCPs that either engage in immediate hostility or display confusion.
The D-class's hesitancy and evasiveness seemed to provoke a mild annoyance in SCP-9743. Its body language—a crossed-arm stance—and tonal shift to mild aggression hinted at a potential for escalation. However, SCP-9743 refrained from physical or anomalous action, instead relying on pointed, concise dialogue to assert dominance in the interaction.
Notably, SCP-9743 directed its focus away from the D-class and toward the cameras during key moments. The rhetorical question, "Why are you here? And not that 'them' you just mentioned?" appeared to address the research team indirectly. This implies a level of understanding about the hierarchical structure of its containment and an expectation to communicate with decision-makers rather than intermediaries.
D-class Response Analysis:
The D-class's attempt to placate SCP-9743 by describing its uniqueness was met with terse dismissal. SCP-9743's interruption, "Do yourself a favor and leave. You're only making this worse for yourself," delivered with cold pragmatism, further underscores its disdain for indirect communication.
Post-Interaction Observations:
After the D-class was removed, SCP-9743 resumed its passive stance, arms crossed, and eyes fixed on the cameras. This posture indicates its patience but also a potential brewing frustration with the research team's perceived indecisiveness.
Key Insights:
Cognitive and Emotional Profile:
SCP-9743 exhibits a highly intelligent and composed demeanor, with calculated verbal and non-verbal communication. While docile on the surface, its dialogue suggests an undercurrent of frustration and an inclination toward direct, goal-oriented interactions.
Environmental Awareness:
Its ability to recognize the surveillance infrastructure and address the research team indirectly indicates a sophisticated understanding of its containment.
Interaction Dynamics:
SCP-9743's handling of the D-class suggests it considers intermediaries unnecessary distractions. Future interactions should involve personnel capable of providing direct and meaningful engagement to avoid potential escalation.
Potential Risks:
The subdued aggression in its tone and body language, combined with its reluctance to expend effort unnecessarily, suggests that SCP-9743 may react violently if provoked or if it perceives inefficiency in its handlers.
Recommendations:
Direct Communication Protocols:
Future interactions should involve a senior researcher or Site Director. SCP-9743's apparent preference for authoritative figures may yield more substantive results.
Containment Monitoring:
Given its awareness of the observation systems, any changes in camera placement or functionality should be subtle to avoid provoking a reaction.
Behavioral Testing:
A psychological profile can be developed through controlled interactions where SCP-9743 is provided with complex moral or logical dilemmas. This could reveal its decision-making patterns and potential limitations.
Concluding Thoughts:
SCP-9743's composure and intelligence present a unique challenge. It is neither overtly hostile nor cooperative, existing in a state of tense neutrality. This interaction, while uneventful on the surface, underscores its capacity for strategic engagement and presents a clear need for tailored containment strategies.
