Chapter 3

====

I need more people to write LOTM Fanfiction. Also, give me power stones.

Valerie arrived in Bunkland unnoticed. She wandered the streets, wondering what to do next. First, she should try to secure a place of residence, a safe house. That was the first step. Next was living conditions, such as food, water, and clothing. She had nothing but oversized male robes.

Then, she should try to collect money. Investments. Her time here would be limited. Buy stocks, real estate, and things that could provide her with funds she might need in the future. She should pave the way, establish alternate identities, and safe houses, and back up funds to keep in case of disaster.

Then she needed to improve her strength. There were three things she needed for this. First was connections. Beyonders belonged to an organization and had connections. No Beyonder operated alone. Not ones that lived long, at least. Church's, Secret Gatherings, Beyonder Organizations. She needed connections.

She should try and scope out the Beyonder Social Landscape of Bunkland. See where opportunities lie. Then capitalize on them. She had already prepared herself for joining the Tarot Club, but she had no idea when it would take effect.

The next thing she needed to improve her strength was Sealed Artifacts. They could make a weak Beyonder on par with a Demigod. The Churches had many, which allowed them to deal with and adapt to any situation. They theoretically should be easy to find and obtain, as they were easy to manipulate compared to Humans.

The Final thing she could use to improve her Strength was becoming a Beyonder herself. However, that would be up to 0 - 08 to decide when her 'Mentor' would approach. She had no knowledge of Potion Recipes, having lost the memories of Ince Zangwill.

She needed to be patient, as she didn't want to waste her precious little spirituality on forcing future events early. She quickly thought about this and looked at the open book in her palm as she walked through the alleyway.

Valerie felt her spirituality quickly draining away and quickly decided on what was most important to write. She resolved to quickly become a Beyonder, to raise her spirituality to make using 0 - 08 more effective.

Valerie was lucky enough to stumble upon an empty house as she walked, which was well kept and neat, with supplies for someone to live for several years inside. It was also inconspicuous, and no one would coincidentally stumble upon it for any reason.

Valerie felt her spirituality drain to nearly empty already. She sighed, knowing that she would only be able to use 0 - 08 one more time for the day. But this house would be worth it. It would have a barrier of 'secrecy' of it, to prevent 0 - 08 from sabotaging it or making anyone stumble upon it.

She then looked up from the book, to see a house with a giant red chimney. She opened the door, which was conveniently unlocked, and made herself at home. She took off her robes and changed for a pair of basic women's clothing she found in a wardrobe upstairs in a bedroom.

This house seemed to be owned by a couple, a man and a woman. She threw a log into the fireplace and lit it, letting heat flow through the home as Valerie sat on the couch, tired and already exhausted.

She leaned her head back before the scribbling of the quill alerted her to its presence. She turned to the quill, watching it. Her relationship with the 0 - 08 was odd. Ince Zangwill had an agreement of sorts with it. He would use it, and in turn, he would free it from the control of the Evernight Church. That much she knew from her memories.

Ince Zangwill could use it, but it would also cause misfortune and try to kill him at every turn. Yet, she was different. It hadn't yet tried to actively kill her, only create misfortune. In fact, every time she used it, it created what was closer to trials, or obstacles a protagonist would suffer, and gave rewards for overcoming these hurdles in turn. It was odd and suspicious.

Valerie recognized the discrepancy in 0 - 08, which caused it to change its patterns in regards to how it treated Beyonders who used it. This was due to 0 - 08 recognizing her 'Uniqueness' similar to a certain 'deity', who fell long ago. Similar to him, she also emerged from a certain 'something' in relation to the Reader Pathway, which was why she should choose it.

The Reader Pathway greatly improved the Beyonder's Spirituality, which would allow Valerie to use 0 - 08 with much greater effect. As well, it provided abilities suited to Valerie's needs and personality, and was suited to her 'Uniqueness'.

Valerie frowned. It was trying to convince her to choose the 'Reader' Pathway again. She knew why as well. The Reader Pathway had almost no abilities in its early Sequences, and what 0 - 08 said was true. It would increase her spirituality greatly and make using it a lot more effective. But it would also increase her dependency on it greatly. But she was already dependent on it, wasn't she?

She sighed, feeling sorry for herself, before thinking about what to do next. She wanted to prepare something powerful, something that could allow her to survive in Tingen when the time came, should she not be able to become a Beyonder before then.

But what should it be? An ally, or a Sealed Artifact? She was more inclined towards a Sealed Artifact. She also wanted it to be strong. Very strong. Something that could potentially be used against a Demigod if need be. The Quill began writing sporadically in response to her desires. She then had an idea. One that was extremely dangerous but could be very useful.

Somewhere within Bunkland, a powerful 0 Level Sealed Artifact appeared, able to counter the negative effects and powers of 0 - 08, but also make it stronger. Its presence was not noticed by the Beyonders of Bunkland.

Valerie leaned back, feeling the rest of her spirituality drain. She frowned. She began to realize the faults and effects of 0 - 08 more clearly. When she wrote a narrative, the more specific, story-like, and narratively flowing it was, the less spirituality it consumed.

The more outlandish and less realistic her wishes and changes were, the more her wishes would be twisted and changed, and less like her original desire. She had no doubt her Demigod mentor would be extremely weakened, or dying, or perhaps out of control. And they would give her the Sequence 9 Reader Potion Formula, but require something in return.

Normally, affecting other 0 Level Artifacts would be impossible with her current abilities, but she could manipulate the situation, and perhaps the person who possessed an artifact of that level. She was forced to leave her wish very vague, which meant that the Quill could fill in the blanks with things to twist her desire into something terrible.

What she needed the most at this moment was a way to counteract the negative effects of 0 - 08. While she realized her dependence on the artifact was extremely dangerous, she didn't see another option at this point.

The former Chief Priest and Angel of the Church of Combat Larrion had arrived in Bunkland with the intent of shaking off his pursuers. His thirst for revenge against the Evernight Church had led him to Bunkland, where he intended to cause mass casualties and damage. His plan to use the Sealed Artifact 0 - 02 was already made, but he simply accelerated a bit forward at the thought of revenge.

As well, the entire city of Bunkland was controlled by the Royal Family and MI9, which had many Demigods of the Lawyer and Arbiter Sequence, attracting 0 - 02. As well, due to a certain plan, a very powerful Beyonder of the Lawyer Sequence would appear soon, affecting 0 - 02. It had been corrupted by a certain existence and thus was drawn to Pathways adjacent to the Arbiter Pathway. This all coincided with news that several powerful forces were converging in Bunkland, encouraging Larrion to go and take part in the chaos.

Valerie frowned as she watched the Quill write. She contemplated the guilt she currently felt. She had possibly caused an inadvertent disaster by bringing this 'Larrion' to Bunkland, but at the same time, she also gained information and a chance to grow stronger. Plus, there were many Churches in Bunkland, and was confident they could deal with Larrion. She knew that both churches had dozens of Demigods and Sealed Artifacts to use after all.

As she read this, she also realized a few key facts about 0 - 08. It heavily relied on the Law of Beyonder Characteristic Convergence. It was natural, and something she could use to make using 0 - 08 more efficient. It seemed like an excuse it used often and easily. She should easily be able to do the same.

She sighed, before laying down on the couch, feeling exhausted. She felt uneasy, knowing that the Quill could write while she slept, but she hoped that this 0 - 02 might be able to counteract it, or perhaps seal it in some way.

She fell asleep, as the pen began to scribble.

As Valerie Zangwill fell into unconsciousness, several powerful figures in the shadows began to move. Several Demigod level existences were located within Bunkland at this moment, all willing 'mentors' who would approach Valerie to fulfill her desire.

But the most powerful of them would be the first, and Valerie would soon come to dread this moment in the future…

=============

A small annoyance I had while reading LOTM was how the author changed the name of the True Creator, to Fallen Creator, then the Hanged Man, which then god confusing with the Creator God, Original Creator God, and Ancient Sun God.

If you are looking for good LOTM Fanfiction, try LOTM: The Witch and the Calamity. MC is Witch, but no actual weird gender-bender stuff. Reminded of LOTM quite a lot with how it was written, and I quite enjoyed it. LOTM: I am breaking the Dimensional Wall was also good. Recommend me any if you think they are good. Most of the ones I have read are to poorly translated to be comprehensible, or just bad. Good thing mine is both, despite being originally English.

Be sure to leave comments, ideas, or just debate me how I'm wrong if you want to show support.
