Chapter 110: The Monster in the Woods

The faint light of the flashlight shone into the pitch-black woods.

The area was overgrown with weeds, and there were no fields around. The residents all lived at the foot of the mountain, so it was unlikely that anyone usually came here.

Everyone looked around with their flashlights.

  "Where is it?"

  "There's nothing here."

Liu Fugui, trembling, hid behind Hu Zi and pointed to a big tree on the right, saying, "It's there, just behind that big tree!"

Lu Fei walked over with his flashlight. The ground was covered with fallen leaves and weeds, but there was no sign of any four-legged monster with a baby's head.

"Old Liu, you must have been mistaken," Lu Fei said speechlessly, "There's no light in the woods, and the shadows cast by the swaying branches can look pretty eerie."

"How could I be wrong? I clearly saw it just now. That baby face even opened its mouth. At first, I didn't think it was a face, but when I took a second look, I got really scared."

Liu Fugui widened his eyes, stepping out from behind Hu Zi, and looked around vigorously.

"How could it be gone? It must have been scared away by so many of us!"

"Pfft! Stop pretending. No one will laugh at you for making a mistake. Scaring everyone like that in the middle of the night." Hu Zi never believed it from the start and rolled his eyes.

Everyone else also thought it was impossible.

This wasn't some remote wilderness or a primeval forest. How could there be such an outrageous monster?

"I'm not pretending! I really saw it!"

Liu Fugui, seeing that no one believed him, felt very indignant. He snatched the flashlight from Hu Zi and started shining it around. Suddenly, he spotted something and picked it up from the ground.

"Look, here's a clump of hair!"

"What's so special about hair? Don't you have it growing on your body?" Hu Zi said irritably.

"This is hair from the monster, look!"

Liu Fugui placed that small tuft of hair under the flashlight.

Seeing how serious he was, everyone became curious and leaned in for a closer look.

The hair was grayish-white, with some dark red stains, looking a bit dirty, but it was very fine and resilient.

"This is wool!" Hu Zi recognized it at first sight, "My family raised sheep before, and I used to pull out some to play with when I was a kid. It looks just like this."

"Wool?" Liu Fugui was a bit confused.

"It might just be a sheep. There's a village at the foot of the mountain, and it's not uncommon for a sheep to run around. Sheep have slightly pointed heads, and in this darkness, it could easily look like a human face!" said Hu Zi.

  "Really?"

  Liu Fugui scratched his head.

"Alright, alright, as long as everything is fine. Sister Hua is waiting for us, let's hurry up and go," Chen Jinfu urged impatiently.

Everyone laughed at Liu Fugui for a while before leaving the woods.

  The car started.

Lu Fei couldn't help but look at the woods again, and was immediately startled.

In the dark branches and leaves, there seemed to be a pale child's head.

  "Wait a moment!"

  Lu Fei called out softly.

The car, which had just started, came to a sudden halt.

"What's wrong, Manager Lu?" Everyone turned around to look.

Lu Fei rolled down the car window.

However, the woods were pitch black; there was nothing there.

The child's head that he had seen just a moment ago disappeared in a blink, and he couldn't tell whether what he saw was a sheep's head or a child's head.

"Brother Xiao Lu, did you see it too?" Liu Fugui shouted as if a long-standing injustice had been vindicated: "I told you I wasn't wrong, there is something! Brother Xiao Lu, what did you see?"

"It was moving too fast, I didn't see it clearly."

"Although this forest isn't big, it connects to the mountain behind, and it's normal for there to be a few animals on the mountain. Don't worry about that, Sister Hua and the others are getting anxious waiting for us."

Chen Jinfu didn't care at all and urged A Long to start the car.

As the car drove away, Lu Fei kept looking at the forest, but that head didn't appear again.

If it really was as Liu Fugui said, with four legs, a baby's head, and covered in fur, wouldn't that be a monster from legends, a human-headed beast?

Setting aside whether such mythical creatures actually exist, even if they do, why would they appear here?

Although Lu Fei was puzzled, it wasn't practical to go into the dark forest to look for it.

Besides, even if there was a monster, what did it have to do with him?

Lu Fei shook his head and put aside his doubts.

The car descended the mountain and entered the city streets.

"Brother Fa, just take us back." Lu Fei said.

"How can that be? If we go back now, we wouldn't have eaten well or played well, would we?" Chen Jinfat shook his head repeatedly.

"Brother Fa, I appreciate your kindness, but I really don't have this interest. I don't know what to do if I go, and I'd feel very constrained. It's better to go home early and sleep."

Lu Fei insisted, and Chen Jinfat didn't want to force him, so he looked at Liu Fugui and Hu Zi.

"What about Brother Hu and Old Liu?"

"I'm a decent person, just like my boss," Hu Zi said with a serious face.

Liu Fugui also wasn't in the mood and sighed, "Forget it, I won't go either. I should abstain from such pleasures this year. Every time I think about going out, strange things happen."

"Manager Lu, I'll arrange something different next time."

Chen Jinfat had intended to treat Lu Fei to a good meal, but with the corpse raising eels and the monster in the woods, he felt very disappointed himself.

Just push them over there and send them back to the Antique Street.

"I think it's safer to stay with you guys tonight."

Liu Fugui, feeling uneasy, went to the pawnshop with them, despite his embarrassment.

Huzi naturally couldn't resist a round of teasing him.

"Old Liu, your courage is smaller than a sesame seed, always seeing ghosts and fearing everything!"

"What do you know? This is called being cautious to ensure safety. There's definitely something wrong with the feng shui of that Moonview Manor; we even encountered strange things on the way."

  Back at the pawnshop.

Each of the three made a bowl of instant noodles.

Apart from eels, there was nothing good to eat at the Moonview Manor. Everyone was still hungry, but they didn't say anything in front of Chen Jinfɑ.

"Even delicacies can't compare to a bowl of instant noodles!" Huzi patted his belly and said.

After finishing his meal, Lu Fei wiped his mouth and handed the dishes over to them to clean up, while he began to organize the accounts.

Then, he took out the small coffin that he had collected from the construction site and wiped off the dust on it.

"Old Liu, spread the word about this small coffin. There's a certain kind of person who loves this stuff, and we can ask for a sky-high price this time!"

Anyway, keeping the small coffin was useless for him, so he might as well sell it sooner. Since opening the shop, he had only sold two cursed items, so it was time to put another one on the market.

"How high are we talking?" Li Fugui almost thought he had misheard.

"The higher, the better. No upper limit. Whoever offers the highest price gets the small coffin," said Lu Fei, patting the small coffin.

  "Sure thing!"

Li Fugui was extremely excited and immediately sent the message out on his phone.

"This time we're going to make a killing!" he thought happily, pushing the strange events of the night far from his mind, checking his phone from time to time.

Tiger couldn't help but be curious and asked, "Boss, who would like this kind of coffin?"

  "Why don't you guess?"

"How could I guess?" Huzi shrugged his hands directly.

"Then we'll see when Old Liu finds this coffin lover," Lu Fei chuckled and stretched lazily.

"Alright, it's getting late. Everyone should go to sleep. I have to go somewhere tomorrow!"

Everyone washed up and returned to their rooms.

Lu Fei still couldn't sleep, so he decided to read for a while.

Sitting at the desk, he inadvertently noticed a missing person notice on the table.

  "Where did this come from?"

He was stunned for a moment before remembering that a couple had given it to him when he was buying books.

The humble way they handed out flyers was heartbreaking.

At that time, Lu Fei also said that if he saw any clues related to the child, he would definitely notify them.

"I wonder if they have found the child..."

Then, when he saw the photo on the flyer, he was stunned for a moment.

"Huh? Something's not right, how does this child look a bit like the face in the woods?"
