Chapter 125: The Haunted House Incident in University

"Class representative, what did he say? Does he know why Haibo suddenly ran back to the haunted house at school?" Lu Fei asked hurriedly.

This incident was really sudden and too eerie.

In Lu Fei's memory, Guo Haitao had always been an optimistic and cheerful person, how could he possibly jump off a building out of the blue?

"Pan Linkai said he didn't know either. After graduation, everyone went their separate ways, all busy with job hunting, and there wasn't much contact. Don't overthink it; maybe it was just too much social pressure," Wang Feng comforted.

"Did he say what happened when they went on that ghost building adventure back then?" Lu Fei asked, not willing to let it go.

"Sorry, Lu Fei, I have to work some overtime. How about you ask him yourself when we meet tomorrow?"

  "Thanks, class monitor."

Lu Fei put down his phone.

It was already late into the night, but he tossed and turned, unable to sleep, as scenes of his interactions with Guo Haitao during school days kept flashing through his mind.

He felt that something was fishy about this whole situation.

Even if Haitao had encountered setbacks in finding a job after graduation and couldn't handle the pressure, why would he specifically go back to the school to jump?

And of all places, that haunted building.

But the trip to the haunted house with Haibo happened before graduation, so why didn't anything happen back then, and why is there an issue now after we've left school?

And just as the class president said, it wasn't just Haitao who went to the haunted house; everyone else is fine.

His mind was in a mess, and Lu Fei didn't sleep well all night.

Finally, by the next afternoon, Lu Fei changed his clothes, withdrew some cash, asked Hu Zi to watch the shop, and hurried out.

It was rush hour, and the traffic was very congested.

The class president had sent everyone the address, and they were meeting outside Guo Haibo's neighborhood.

When Lu Fei arrived, two classmates were already waiting at the entrance.

  "Lu Fei, you're here too!"

One of them was a female classmate, wearing a conservative black dress. Her fair and pretty face was unadorned, and she looked very happy to see Lu Fei.

  "You are... Xia Yiyi?"

Lu Fei was taken aback for a moment before recognizing the person.

In his memory, Xia Yiyi always wore a pair of large glasses. He didn't expect that after graduation and a change in appearance, she would have such a dramatic transformation. From a呆萌的小骨朵 (cute little bud), she had blossomed into a水灵灵的小花 (fresh and lovely little flower).

"Well, the sun is rising from the west, it's rare for the usually aloof Lu to attend a class event," another male classmate, Huang Junkun, said, not as warmly, with a hint of sarcasm.

"Lu Fei and Guo Haibo are roommates. He was bound to come," Xia Yiyi added.

"He never pops up in the group chat and doesn't attend class reunions! But now he's here, acting all nice and everything," Huang Junkun scoffed.

"I just had some family matters and don't check messages often," Lu Fei explained politely.

"I heard your family is in business. Are you a rich second generation who's going to inherit the family business right after graduation?" Huang Junkun scrutinized Lu Fei from head to toe.

"No, it's just a small business to make ends meet," Lu Fei replied nonchalantly.

"True! Running a small business means doing everything yourself, busy from morning till night! And you don't even have a car; you really need to work hard, or no girl will be lucky enough to marry you in the future."

Seeing Lu Fei's plain attire, Huang Junkun showed a faint look of disdain, deliberately holding up the key to his Audi.

"Yiyi, why don't you wait in my car? Look, your face is all flushed. It's comfortable inside with the air conditioning on."

"No, it's alright. The class monitor and Pan Linkai should be here soon," Xia Yiyi shook her head, politely declining his offer.

"Why be so formal with me? Uncle Xia asked me to take good care of you. We are family from now on." Huang Junkun reached out to pull Xia Yiyi's slender, fair arm.

"Really, no need. Who is family with you? Can you watch what you say and not cause misunderstandings?" Xia Yiyi frowned and walked directly to Lu Fei's side, using him as a shield.

Huang Junkun's face immediately fell, but he didn't dare to get angry at Xia Yiyi, so he glared fiercely at Lu Fei instead.

Lu Fei didn't notice his slight, because the class monitor and Pan Linkai finally arrived.

"Sorry, I rushed over here as soon as I got off work. The traffic was really bad."

Both of them were sweating profusely.

Wang Feng was still holding a file folder, with half of his light blue shirt soaked in sweat.

"It's fine, we just arrived not long ago," Lu Fei nodded and looked at Pan Linkai.

Pan Lin Kai's face seemed to be in a bad state, burdened with heavy thoughts.

"Now that everyone is here, I will seek your opinions first. Should we give the gift money together or individually?" Wang Feng took out a tissue and wiped his sweat as he spoke.

"Let's give it together; no matter how much, it's the thought that counts." Lu Fei said.

"I think it would be better to give individually. The intention can be big or small. If we pool it together, some who contribute less would be getting a free ride, wouldn't they?"

Huang Jun Kun immediately opposed, taking a slightly thick envelope from his genuine leather wallet, with a hint of smugness on his face.

Pan Kai Lin's face showed a touch of embarrassment.

His family was quite ordinary, and he had just found a job but hadn't received his salary yet. He could only manage to contribute a few hundred yuan at most.

"Let's still give it together. We are all classmates; there's no need to be so particular." Xia Yiyi, unable to bear it, immediately took out her share from her small bag and handed it to Wang Feng.

Wang Feng nodded, "Alright, those who want to give together can do so, and those who prefer to give separately can do so."

Then, he combined his share, Pan Lin Kai's share, and Xia Yiyi's share.

"And you, Lu Fei." Huang Junkun raised his chin towards Lu Fei, "You and Guo Haitao are roommates, don't tell me you came to visit his parents without bringing a single cent."

"I didn't bring much, just enough to show my sincerity." Lu Fei took out his share and handed it to Wang Feng.

The envelope was thick, it was unclear if it contained ten thousand yuan or more.

  Wang Feng was stunned.

"Lu Fei, combining your share with ours, aren't you at a great disadvantage?"

"It's just a small token of my respect; how could it compare to Huang Junkun's generosity?" Lu Fei smiled and looked at Huang Junkun.

Huang Junkun's expression froze. Compared to Lu Fei's thick envelope, the slightly plump envelope in his hand suddenly seemed quite embarrassing.

"I'm not like some people who pretend to be generous when they can barely afford it!"

Then, he added to save face, and gave his envelope to Wang Feng as well.

Wang Feng, always considering the bigger picture, did not argue with him.

"Then, let's go up and visit Uncle and Aunt first. We can talk about everything else later," he said, seeing that it was about time, and led everyone into the residential area.

This was a common multi-story residential area, and Guo Haitao's family conditions were quite average.

Wang Feng knocked on the door of a household.

"Uncle Guo, we are Haitao's classmates."

"Please come in." An elderly man with gray hair, looking haggard, opened the door, trembling.

  Everyone entered one by one.

Pan Linkai lagged at the back, and Lu Fei, turning around, saw him standing outside, his eyes filled with a hint of fear.

  "Linkai, what's wrong?"
