Splash! Splash!
Water splashed in all directions.
Lu Fei, drenched to the bone, braved the wind and rain, stepping through puddles as he tightly pursued the fleeing shadow.
"Lu Fei, are you really still going to chase it?"
Jing Jian and Hu Zi followed behind, their faces filled with concern.
"It's too dangerous, I don't want the inner dan of the big fish anymore!"
Given the situation just now, it was already a miracle that he managed to escape with his life. He did not want his friends to risk their lives for him again.
"What are you thinking? I haven't even gotten my Fish Surprise Stone yet!"
Lu Fei didn't look back, his resolve firm.
Strike while the iron is hot.
The fish demon was injured and on land, making this the perfect opportunity to eliminate the creature.
"How dare it touch my boss, I will fight it to the death!" Hu Zi's eyes were also red with determination.
Jing Jian looked at the two people, said no more, and sped up his pace with effort.
The three of them pursued all the way, and they were about to reach the lakeside.
"We can't let it get back! Once it gets into the water, we won't have a chance!"
Lu Fei shouted anxiously; the range of his jujube wood staff was too short, and he had no ghost-restraining talismans left in his hand.
"Black Umbrella, stop it!"
But the black oil paper umbrella on the side of the backpack did not move at all.
It seemed to only react when Lu Fei's life was in danger.
Lu Fei was extremely anxious and switched his lightning-struck jujube wood staff for a ghost-whipping whip, but there was still a considerable distance between him and the shadowy mass.
Hu Zi gritted his teeth and ran with all his might. He was already running at top speed, leading the three of them, but he was still far behind the fish demon.
"I'll do it!"
Seeing Fuxian Lake just ahead, Jing Jianxin steeled his heart and pulled the life-saving spirit jade hanging around his neck, then smashed it fiercely at the shadow.
Boom!
A golden light flashed in the water, and the fish demon let out a scream, its speed immediately slowing down significantly.
"Die!"
In a few quick steps, Hu Zi leaped up, gripping the ghost-head saber tightly with both hands, and thrust it fiercely into the shadow in the water.
The shadow thrashed about violently.
Hu Zi gritted his teeth, refusing to let go, veins popping on his forehead, muscles bulging on his arms as the ghost-head saber was driven into the ground.
"Die!!!"
Lu Fei mustered all his strength, pouring all the magic power from his dantian into the thunderstrike jujube wood staff, and struck the shadow with it.
Jing Jian finally charged forward and thrust the peachwood sword.
Boom!
Water splashed in all directions, blue arcs of electricity flickered, and everyone's vision was blurred, yet no one let go.
Finally.
The shadow's swaying grew weaker and weaker until it came to a complete stop.
Lu Fei wiped the water from his face and saw a black catfish as thick as a thigh pinned beneath the ghosthead knife.
On either side of the catfish's mouth, long whiskers hung down, and its eyes gradually turned grayish-white.
"It's finally dead!"
All three of them were drained of energy, their bodies limp, and they fell into the water with a plop.
At that moment, the wind and rain completely stopped, leaving the sky a dull gray.
Breathing heavily, they looked at each other and suddenly burst into laughter.
"I never thought we could actually kill this fish demon." Jing Jian looked at the plump catfish corpse, still in disbelief.
"I told you, with our boss around, we were bound to succeed." Hu Zi grinned foolishly, pride all over his face.
"Oh right, where's your jade pendant? Hurry up and help me look for it, Hu Zi. That was a fine piece of jade!" Lu Fei, recalling something, suddenly became anxious, feeling around in the water everywhere.
The other two hurried to search as well.
Lu Fei felt a hard object in the mud; it seemed to be the jade pendant.
"Found it...huh? What is this?"
When he picked it up, it turned out not to be the jade pendant, but a small, oddly-shaped stone.
On the back of the stone was etched a character that resembled the word for 'rain', and on the front was a menacing beast's face.
Lu Fei examined the stone curiously, sensing that it contained some kind of powerful force, not just an ordinary stone.
"Boss, come quick and look, what's happening in the lake?"
At this moment, Hu Zi suddenly pointed towards the lake and shouted loudly.
The water in the lake surged up high, moving towards them, the strong wind it brought made the three of them shiver with cold.
Jing Jian was stunned, "Could there be a monster in that water?"
"Run!"
Lu Fei immediately picked up the fish monster's corpse; no matter what it was, they were too weak to deal with it now.
The three of them, carrying the fish corpse, stumbled along, dragging their exhausted bodies, and ran with all their might.
The huge water surge poured out of the lake, closely pursuing them, and did not give up even after chasing for a long distance.
"What a strange thing!"
Lu Fei glanced back and was instantly terrified.
In the surging water, a massive face was faintly visible.
A big green face?!
We didn't offend it, so why is it chasing us?
Lu Fei had a sudden thought and pulled out the strange stone he had picked up earlier from his pocket, throwing it with all his might into the water flow.
The water flow abruptly stopped, and a high water column suddenly rose, engulfing the stone.
The big green face in the water gave Lu Fei a cold look before rapidly retreating. The wall-like water wave instantly vanished from the surface of the lake, leaving only ripples behind.
The three of them were truly exhausted and could run no more, gasping for breath as they gazed at the lake.
"What on earth is going on?"
Huzi and Jing Jian were utterly bewildered.
"Could it be that the stone can bring rain?" Lu Fei mused. "Actually, the fish demon doesn't have the ability to create storms. It was able to summon this heavy rain because of the stone, but the stone isn't its; it belongs to that big-faced monster."
Otherwise, if it had such a powerful ability, why didn't it use it when we took away the little fish demon?
The fish monster is already dead; they could only guess as much.
"That face was absolutely terrifying, what on earth was it?" Hu Zi, still in shock, said, "There are too many weird things in the water!"
That face just now seemed human yet not quite human.
Lu Fei had no idea what it was, and Jing Jian had even less of an answer.
But to be able to escape with their lives and successfully exterminate the fish monster, everyone was very excited.
After catching their breath, Jing Jian suddenly cried out in panic: "Oh no, I haven't found my jade pendant yet. With all that water just now, I'm afraid..."
"Haha, don't worry, here it is!" Hu Zi chuckled, holding a dirty white jade pendant in his hand, "Call me Brother Hu, and I'll give it to you."
Earlier, preoccupied with saving their own lives, he hadn't had the chance to give it to Jing Jian.
"Call you brother? But you're younger than me, how can I call you brother? I should call you Little Hu," Jing Jian thought about it and said very seriously.
"How boring!" Hu Zi threw the jade pendant back.
"Many thanks, Brother Hu, many thanks, Brother Hu!" Jing Jian was overjoyed and hurriedly took the jade pendant and wiped it with his sleeve.
The jade was crystal clear, in the shape of a qilin, and exquisitely crafted, with the qilin's expression lifelike.
Lu Fei could tell at a glance that it was a fine piece of spirit jade.
However, there were two thin cracks on it.
"It's good that it didn't break." Jing Jian felt a twinge of heartache and carefully put away the jade pendant.
The clouds in the sky dissipated, and the sky became increasingly bright.
Lu Fei looked around and saw people starting to move about in the town.
"Hurry up, take out the inner dan!"
The three of them gathered their strength, dragged the fish corpse into the reeds, and used a knife to cut open the head of the fish demon.
