Chapter 362: The Snail Maiden

"Huzi, look at these dragon scales on our shoulders."

"You should have seen it, how awe-inspiring it was when the real dragon took to the sky..."

"And people with money are really crazy these days, even the leeches we fished out of the ditch were bought, Lu Fei gave me quite a bit of the money..."

  Jing Jian kept chattering.

Hu Zi Son's veins bulged on his fist.

"Brother Jing, stop beating around the bush! We're here for serious business!" Lu Fei slapped Jing Jian on the shoulder, "How's the investigation about the Snail Maiden?"

"I've been squatting on this street every day, keeping an eye on that old bachelor! I can assure you, there's definitely something fishy in his house! But whether it's an evil spirit or not, I haven't been able to get into his house to check." Jing Jian said seriously.

"That old bachelor only brags to others about having the Snail Maiden, but he doesn't let anyone into his house to see."

Lu Fei said speechlessly, "If that's the case, was there any need for me to make this trip?"

"That's why we need Master Mo's help! Regardless of other things, Master Mo has some reputation on this street. As long as he speaks up, the old bachelor will definitely agree to let us in."

Jing Jian smiled and looked at Master Mo.

Master Mo glared at him, "You sure it's just a little?"

"Just about right, everyone gives you face because you're older, you can't be too greedy!" Jing Jian waved his hand.

Master Mo took a deep breath: "You'd better pay off your debt, or I'll sew that mouth of yours shut right now!"

Lufei was afraid Jing Jian's loose lips would offend someone again and quickly said, "Thank you, Master Mo!"

"Not at all! Dasha is just a bit lazy and has a good appetite, but he's not a bad person. We've been neighbors for so many years; I wouldn't want to see anything happen to him."

Master Mo waved his hand and sighed slightly.

"Dasha lives right next to me. He started acting strangely about half a month ago."

"One morning, I went out for my usual stroll and ran into him as he was rushing out of the building in a hurry."

"He usually sleeps until late in the morning, so it was unusual for him to be up so early. I asked him out of curiosity, and he told me he had found a treasure and needed to buy an aquarium to keep it in."

"I thought he was just boasting again and didn't take it seriously."

"But a few days later, I kept being woken up in the middle of the night by mumbling from next door. The old house is not well soundproofed, and I'm an old man with light sleep, so I wake up at the slightest noise. I could hear Dasha talking to someone, laughing and chatting."

"Dasha's parents passed away a long time ago, and he lives alone. Who could he be talking to?"

"I was kept up for a few nights and was very angry. One midnight, I wanted to go talk to him about it, but when I pulled the curtain, I saw a woman's shadow flash by his window."

"I felt something was wrong, so the next day when I met him, I grabbed him and asked what was going on."

"He then told me in a mysterious way that he had found a girl in a snail shell, and she would come out every night to keep him company, wash his clothes, and cook for him."

Master Mo frowned and shook his head.

"There are no such things as girls in snail shells in this world; it must be some kind of filthy thing! I advised him to get rid of it, but he wouldn't listen!"

"I could see from the darkness on his forehead that he was clearly quite enchanted."

"If Shopkeeper Lu can find a way to get rid of that evil thing, you'll save this fool's life!"

"Rest assured, Master Mo, I will do my best!" Lu Fei then asked, "Last time, Brother Jing told me that the old bachelor never bought meat but ate it every day. What's the situation?"

"Every midnight, the smell of simmering meat would waft out of his house!" Master Mo said seriously, "We all live on the same street, we see each other every day, and no one has ever seen Big Fool buy meat. Where does his meat come from? It can't be that the girl in the snail shell conjured it, right?"

"Maybe he buys his meat at different times and places than everyone else?" Lu Fei speculated.

Master Mo shook his head: "He goes out once a day now, just before the sun sets. He carries an empty bucket out and returns with it about an hour later."

"The bucket is obviously much heavier when he comes back, tightly sealed, and the surface is damp. When people ask him what he's carrying, he refuses to tell them no matter what."

"I'm afraid that fool might be lured by something unclean and end up doing something bad."

  This behavior is quite unsettling.

But Lu Fei found it strange.

Master Mo, being a master of crafting magical artifacts, was highly skilled. Could he not handle this kind of evil presence?

"Young Friend Lu, to be honest, I only know how to make magical artifacts, but I am not a cultivator, and I have no magical power at all," Master Mo explained with a smile, as if he could read Lu Fei's thoughts.

"Magical artifacts need magical power to be most effective. The best artifact in my hands would just be a stick for warding off evil, similar to a talisman for peace."

"Dealing with evil entities is not my forte."

  So that's how it is.

  Lu Fei nodded.

People in the Xuan Sect have different specialties, such as mountain lore, medicine, destiny, physiognomy, and divination. Not everyone has to engage in exorcising evil spirits and catching ghosts.

"Master Mo, when would it be convenient for you to take us to his house?"

"There's no business at the moment, and we should not delay. Let's go now!" Master Mo stood up, tidied up the shop a bit, and then led Lu Fei and the other two towards his home.

His house was in an old alley on the neighboring street.

"Dasha, Dasha, are you at home?"

In the old stairwell, Master Mo knocked on a faded security door.

  "Who is it?"

After knocking for a while, the door finally opened. A man around forty, yawning, poked his head out and looked at Master Mo.

"Uncle Mo, what do you need me for?"

"Great! Didn't your parents leave you some old items? These bosses are antique dealers. Show them what you have, and you might get a good price." Master Mo found an excuse.

"Do I have any antiques at home?" The man was a bit confused.

"Whether you do or not, let the bosses take a look and you won't lose anything. If there are any, you could make a fortune." Master Mo smiled. After being neighbors for decades, he understood the other person's psychology very well.

"That's right, with money I can buy things that Sister Narcissus likes!"

The man didn't suspect anything and instead happily opened the door to let everyone in.

Everyone was a bit surprised at how easy it was.

No wonder he is called Big Fool.

They had expected the old bachelor's house to be dirty and messy, but to their surprise, it was very clean and tidy, even spotless.

It was obvious that it was cleaned meticulously every day.

But Big Fool was a sloppy person, and clearly not someone who would keep things neat, so it couldn't have been his doing.

If it's really an evil entity, then this evil entity is quite kind, actually cleaning up the house for him.

"Take a look for yourselves, all the old stuff is in this room, no matter what's valuable, I'm selling it!" Dasha waved his hand with a grin.

  "Alright, just a moment."

Lu Fei surveyed the area without showing any emotion, noticing that the bedroom door was closed, the door panel wet and covered with condensation.
