Captain Marvel, disguise of a Super Skrull, was locked in battle against Wonder Woman and cyborg . Despite their combined efforts, they never lost track of her movements.
The terrifying energy fluctuations rippling through the air were enough to instill fear. As the hurricane-like shockwaves spread, several tall buildings in Washington began to tremble. Glass shattered, and dense cracks formed across high-rise windows.
Civilians dared not approach, truly feeling their lives were at risk.
Fortunately, the battle took place in the sky. Had it occurred within the city itself, Washington would have faced yet another disaster—just like the previous battle between cyborg and Iron Man, which had reduced Washington Square to ruins.
White House
The President stared solemnly at the live feed from the battlefield.
The sheer power displayed by both sides far surpassed that of even the most well-equipped armed forces. It was, without a doubt, the highest level of individual combat capability known on Earth.
"Has that woman's identity been confirmed?"
The President pondered for a moment before adding, "If I recall correctly, she was involved in an alien incident decades ago."
In recent years, alien-related events had been occurring with increasing frequency. The President had been forced to familiarize himself with every extraterrestrial incident recorded by the U.S. government.
A creeping sense of unease settled over him. The moment he saw her, she overlapped with a figure buried in his memory.
"Her identity has been confirmed," said Secretary of Defense John Keller. "Carol Danvers. She was once the lead pilot of Project Pegasus, trained under Dr. Wendy Lawson, and an ace Air Force pilot. However, she disappeared nearly two decades ago. According to all available intel, she hasn't been on Earth for almost twenty years."
The President's suspicions were correct—this was the same woman who had appeared during the alien invasion in the 1990s, the same woman who had forced their forces to retreat.
Her involvement aligned with the classified records he had reviewed.
However, there was another key detail—S.H.I.E.L.D. had been involved in that incident.
And the so-called "hero" who had handled the situation was none other than Nick Fury, who had since taken the Skrulls and fled into space.
"So… could this be connected to Nick Fury?"
The President frowned, deep in thought.
Nick Fury had left Earth aboard a spacecraft alongside the Skrulls. If he had somehow found Carol Danvers and brought her back, it would explain her sudden reappearance.
But why was she fighting Wonder Woman and cyborg ?
That required further investigation.
"Mr. President," Keller said, watching the screen intently. "I believe someone might have the answers."
He pointed at the battle. "Carol Danvers is fighting members of the Justice League. Rather than speculating, we should ask Anton. As a Justice League member and the head of the Men in Black Organization, he likely possesses more intelligence than we do."
"Agreed." The President nodded. "Contact Anton immediately. We need to understand what's happening."
Keller dialed a number and exchanged a few brief words before hanging up.
The President looked at him expectantly. "What did he say?"
"He's on his way to Washington," Keller replied. "He'll be at the White House soon to brief us."
"Good."
The President nodded, waiting for Anton's arrival.
"Here we are!"
Tony's plane entered Washington airspace.
"I'm heading out first!"
After speaking, Tony glanced at Anton—who was fully armored—then opened the plane door and jumped.
Whoosh!
As he fell, his armor engaged, transforming him into Iron Man. The jets on his suit ignited, producing a powerful air current as he accelerated toward the city at lightning speed.
Anton and Monica remained on the plane.
"What should we do?" Monica asked, a bit unsure.
"You stay here."
Anton gave her a brief glance before instructing Jarvis, "Jarvis, take me to the White House."
"Understood, Mr. Jameson Jr.," Jarvis responded as the plane altered course.
Meanwhile, Tony arrived at the battlefield over Washington in record time.
The Super Skrull's expression shifted slightly.
Before him, Wonder Woman and cyborg stood unfazed—they had clearly anticipated Tony's arrival.
"Hmph."
The Super Skrull let out a cold snort. The number of enemies was becoming too much of a hassle.
Neither side could claim victory in this situation. It was nearly impossible for them to defeat him, but equally difficult for him to take them all down alone.
Retreat was the best option.
Lingering too long might reveal information that he'd rather keep hidden.
Whoosh!
His eyes swept over his opponents one last time before he suddenly rocketed skyward. His speed surged like a missile launch, energy thrusters under his feet producing a dazzling glow and shockwaves as he ascended.
"Trying to escape?"
Wonder Woman and cyborg immediately gave chase.
Tony's shoulder compartment shifted, deploying a Sidewinder tracking missile, locking onto Captain Marvel—now revealed to be the Super Skrull in disguise—attempting to intercept him midair.
Boom!
A massive explosion erupted over 1,000 meters above the city, forming a mushroom cloud that spread slowly.
To Tony's surprise, the missile failed to do any real damage. It only managed to briefly halt the Super Skrull's rapid ascent—a momentary disruption that barely mattered.
"Damn it!"
Now that Tony had entered the battle, he could feel the sheer pressure radiating from their opponent.
"Where the hell did this woman come from?"
His mind raced as he recalled something Anton had casually mentioned earlier.
Nick Fury's old friend ?
That phrase kept nagging at him.
But why was she their enemy?
Could Nick Fury really be compromised?
A dozen questions swirled in Tony's head, but he had no time for answers—the Super Skrull was pulling further and further ahead.
Wonder Woman, cyborg , and Tony all pursued relentlessly.
They chased her beyond the atmosphere, but as they neared the edge of space, their opponent continued onward—breaking free of Earth's gravitational pull and heading straight for the Moon.
"Let it go."
Wonder Woman and cyborg came to a halt.
"we can't catch up to her, even if we did, we wouldn't be able to stop her," cyborg's voice came through Tony's comms.
"Fine. We'll let it go this time."
"Wait."
Tony wasn't ready to drop it. "I need some answers."
"Go ask Anton," cyborg replied. "You know where to find him."
"Anton."
Tony thought for a moment, quickly tracking Anton's location.
"The White House?"
As he processed this, Wonder Woman and cyborg had already started their descent back to Earth, disappearing from sight.
Tony didn't bother following.
Right now, he needed answers.
Where had Nick Fury gone?
What was the real story behind this new Carol Danvers?
If she really was Fury's 'old friend ', why was she their enemy?
Did he misunderstand the phrase 'old friend'?
