CHAPTER 36: SANCTUARY.

Astrid's POV:

We'd been walking for a few weeks, although it had felt like an eternity until we stumbled upon a sanctuary.

Kael's eyes locked onto mine, his expression a mix of determination and a little concern. This sanctuary we'd been camped in for the past week was deep within the Asmunda forest, a blessing truly from the moon goddess.

It had been a refuge and a safe space for us, even though the forest was almost always eerily quiet; what mattered the most was that we, and more importantly, the baby, were safe. At least for now, anyway.

The sanctuary's entrance was perfectly hidden behind a semi-tall waterfall, its very loud roar masking any and every sound we made. Indeed it would take awhile for anybody to find us here. I'm certain of it.

Inside, a natural spring provided us with fresh, crystal-clear drinking water. And the surrounding area, now and then, was, teeming with game and wildlife, which served as fold.
