MEATHER, HACKERS investigated the origin of the signal that had taken control of the system. The search was going on furiously until one of them said to the officer in charge:
— Sir, I think I managed to find the origin of the signal, but it doesn't make sense!
— Where is this damn noise coming from? — shouted the officer.
— I found connections in more than twenty different countries, which led to others, in a huge network of connections, but the source is right here, just a few meters away from us.
— Are you serious?
A few seconds later, a huge team advanced into a commercial building on the corner of Fifth and Forty-Second.
THE AGENTS WERE SWEEPING each floor and each room in search of a suspect. Few men and women worked there and some of them, who were reached by the loud sound, were already suffering from the disturbances of the strange attack. Climbing floor by floor, they finally reached a server room, where there was a laptop on the floor, next to a window that overlooked the event.
Two cables came out of the computer, one leading to a local server and the other to the outside of the window, where the agents found a professional DSLR camera, which focused exactly on the stage where Kenan had been, through a huge, very well-positioned lens.
One of the agents informed the security officer:
— Sir, we found the equipment, but the suspect wasn't here, it was just another bridge.
— Bastard! — the officer shouted, maddened.
All the routing packets that passed through various points in the world pointed to that location, but everything was just an obstacle to reaching the intruder, who was controlling that machine remotely, and not its real location. One of the men who found the equipment realized that the terrible noise was being made on that laptop and managed to stop it, while others hurriedly disconnected all the cables they could.
The infernal music stopped.
Part of the mystery had been solved, but the suspect was nowhere near being found...
