GREGORY EVANS FELT the two agents force his arms against the solid wooden chair and could hear the metallic clink of handcuffs. He was being arrested, and this was no ordinary situation. Even if he could prove he had nothing to do with the threats made against the President, he had learned too much, and he had become a target of the state, a threat to be eliminated, there was no escape, not anymore.
He knew that even in governments that did not present themselves as authoritarian, a threat to their stability was something that had to be eliminated.
The system exists to protect the system... — he thought .
TOMMY DIDN'T MOVE, didn't blink and didn't seem to breathe, everything was in slow motion in front of him. Maybe it was one of those moments when the hero finally has his epiphany and discovers the solution for the story to be concluded.
Hero ?
He wasn't a hero, never had been. In fact, he was the antagonist of his own life story. Looking back, he saw a career of bad choices and repeated mistakes, and in the last few months, he had been destroying the only real, good thing he had ever experienced: his relationship with Katherine. And all because he couldn't tell right from wrong, plain and simple.
He had become involved in crime because he wanted to give her a better life, but he found himself increasingly distant from his love, precisely because of his immature decision.
How was Katherine?
What would she look like?
There was no more time to decide to go back, he would be arrested, tried and sentenced without even entering a courtroom, and Katherine would never see him again.
What would happen after that?
What outcome would Kenan's plan have?
Could Gregory Evans be right about future events?
If it was, if all that threat was real, what would Katherine's life be like? He couldn't let that happen, she didn't deserve to have to live in such a threatening time.
I'm sorry, Katy...
They were being arrested. One officer on his right, holding his shoulder so tightly that his fingers felt like they wanted to dig into his flesh, and the other on his left, securing his handcuffs. He wasn't a hero, and he didn't need to be. Maybe all the memories of his life served at that moment to tell him that he was prepared for that end. Nothing he did would make him better, but neither would it make him worse than he had already become. And there were only two options: give up and surrender to the end that would come at the hands of those unscrupulous men, or risk the unexpected... Katherine had saved him from his own life, and now he understood why.
Katy, you would never understand...
GREG SIGNALED TO TOMMY who threw his body to the left, messing up the handcuffs and causing the officer on his right to approach to hold him. When he saw him coming towards him, he quickly turned back, hitting him in the face with his forehead. The man fell to the ground.
Gregory Evans released his right arm from the hands of the agent who was trying to arrest him and turned to the left, with an obtuse turn, reaching for the man's waist, looking for his gun. He found it. He could already see the other agent getting up, and that was when he managed to pull out the 9mm pistol and point it at him. He fired two shots into his chest and the man fell.
Tommy could already feel the hands of the agent next to him reaching for his neck, in order to strangle him.
With no time to react, Greg simply pointed the gun downwards and fired repeatedly, until he realized he had hit his left knee. The man fell to the ground groaning in pain.
— I'm sorry, partner. — Greg said on his knees, hitting him in the head with the butt of the gun.
The first agent was already unconscious, out of breath from the impacts he had received in the chest, but saved by the resistant A3 bulletproof vest. The other had passed out thanks to the blow he had received, but, although he was losing blood from the wound in his knee, he was not in danger, which was a plus for Greg. No deaths there.
— Put the handcuffs on them, we can't risk it now, Tommy.
— Right!
Tommy did as Greg had ordered.
— This dog's life... is always full of emotion...
Tommy didn't understand what he had said, but he decided to follow the most famous detective in the world.
He must know what he's doing, someone has to know what he's doing... it's not possible...
