The slap was so lethal that her cheek hurt so much that she wanted to cry, but she muffled it.
Maya squeezed her eyes closed, embracing herself for the second slap, which she very much deserved, but the slap never came.
She slowly opened her eyes to see Aiden, defiantly clutching his mother's wrist. "Hit her again, and you will feel my wrath," he scowled at her.
"You are defending her?" Beatrice's eyes glistened with betrayal. "Your brother is fighting for his life because of her! And you're preventing me from hitting her to avenge your brother?"
Aiden roughly unclamped his hand from his mother's wrist, causing her to stumble into Charlotte. "Dalton wouldn't hesitate to kill you to protect her; remember that, Mother."
"Now either you sit your ass down and leave Maya alone, or you leave," Aiden hissed. His eyes fiercely scanned Charlotte. "This goes for you too."
They obediently obliged, taking their seats, but didn't stop glaring at Maya.
