Chapter 258: The Purple Silhouette

The night grew deeper.

Yu Xie suddenly found himself unable to sleep tonight. After returning to Liyue, this was the first time he had experienced such sleeplessness.

The most troubling part was that, after thinking it through, he couldn't find the reason.

Just then, a thought flashed across his mind.

He slowly raised his right hand, and a faint glow gathered in the palm of his hand. After the light faded, a delicate "chess piece" floated above his palm.

It was the Gnosis that Makoto and Ei had given him.

Tonight, the Gnosis seemed unusual.

Although it wasn't immediately noticeable, Yu Xie could sense the faintly unusual flow of energy within the Gnosis, as if it had sensed something and was trying to convey a message to him.

Holding the Gnosis, he got out of bed and went to the window. He opened it and looked out at the night, thinking for a moment before putting the Gnosis away, donning his coat, and heading out.

The night sky was clear, and the moonlight bathed the streets of Liyue Harbor. It wasn't too late yet, and there were still some people walking along the streets.

Some were drunkenly returning home, some were enjoying deep conversations, and others wore troubled expressions beneath the night sky.

The myriad faces of life were all contained within this small, bustling town.

Yu Xie wandered leisurely until he arrived at the spot where Iron Tongue Tian was telling stories.

At this moment, there were still some people listening to Iron Tongue Tian's storytelling, clapping and cheering.

Yu Xie found a seat, poured himself a cup of tea, and listened for a while. After finishing the tea, he got up, paid for the drink, and turned to leave.

The slight disturbance in the Gnosis hadn't faded. Yu Xie pondered for a long time, suddenly reaching a conclusion.

Could it be...?

Just as Yu Xie was starting to doubt his own judgment, a patrolling soldier from the Millelith approached.

Yu Xie called out to the soldier.

"Hello, brother, please hold on a moment."

"Millelith's fortifications are strong, no barriers unmovable! What can I do for you, brother?" The soldier stopped and gave Yu Xie a standard military salute of the Millelith.

"May I ask if you're the one on patrol today?"

"Yes, what's the matter?"

"I want to ask if you've seen a woman with long purple hair? She came from Inazuma, and she should be wearing Inazuma-style clothing. She's a bit shorter than me."

After hearing Yu Xie's description, the Millelith soldier thought for a moment.

He searched through his memories of the day and then shook his head.

"During my patrols, I encounter many people and situations, and unless something stands out, it's hard to remember specifics. Is the woman in some kind of trouble? If that's the case, I can request extra manpower to help search."

"Oh, no need," Yu Xie smiled lightly, "I'm just looking for someone, no trouble at all. Since that's the case, I won't trouble you further. Thank you for your hard work on patrol."

"For the sake of Liyue Harbor, this is what we, the Millelith, should do."

After bidding farewell to the diligent Millelith soldier, Yu Xie walked alone on the street.

The sky was growing darker, and the streets were becoming quieter, with fewer people around.

As he passed by WanMin Restaurant, Yu Xie noticed that Xiangling was still in the hall, looking like she had just finished a task.

Without thinking too much, Yu Xie walked in and greeted her.

"Xiangling."

"Oh, it's Yu Xie! What brings you here at this time? You've come a bit late; the ingredients for today are all used up, and there's not much left to eat," Xiangling responded with a smile. "Let me think... there might be a little bit of noodles left, I could still make a bowl of noodles..."

"Xiangling, I'm not here to eat," Yu Xie interrupted her with a smile.

"Hmm? Then what brings you here?" Xiangling asked, puzzled.

"I came..." Yu Xie hesitated for a moment, "to look for someone, though that person might not even be in Liyue Harbor."

"Not in Liyue Harbor? How are you going to find them?" Xiangling seemed confused.

"I'll just see if I can find them," Yu Xie smiled. "It's getting late, you should get some rest, Xiangling."

"What about you? It's so late, and you're still out looking for someone who might not even be in Liyue Harbor?"

"I can't sleep, so I thought I'd go out and look around."

"Speaking of which, I suddenly remembered something. A lady came to the shop today, and she said she was looking for someone too. I asked if she could tell me the name of the person she was looking for, so I could help her find them, but she refused and said she wanted to find them herself," Xiangling paused. "I didn't quite understand, but I didn't ask more about it."

Hearing what Xiangling said, Yu Xie's gaze slightly sharpened.

"Xiangling, what does that lady look like?"

"Hm... She's very beautiful, with smooth, long purple hair. From her attire, she should be from Inazuma."

Upon hearing this, Yu Xie was slightly startled, as his guess was likely correct.

"When did she come here to eat?"

"Probably around noon," Xiangling thought for a moment. "It seems like... Could that lady be the person you're looking for?"

"Probably." Yu Xie nodded, turning to head out. "I'll be going now. Thanks for the information, Xiangling."

Back on the street, Yu Xie unconsciously quickened his pace.

He hadn't expected this.

Was it Makoto or was it Ei?

Crossing the vast ocean just to come to Liyue to find him—this thought brought a warm feeling to Yu Xie's heart.

Time slowly passed, and before he knew it, it was already midnight.

The once-bright streetlights had dimmed significantly, and most people had already returned home to rest. Only the occasional passerby hurried along the street, and the patrolling soldiers of the Millelith were still present.

Yu Xie still couldn't fully understand the reaction from the Gnosis, but for now, this was all he had to go on in his search for that purple silhouette.

He had reached till this point, yet still hadn't found her.

The night wind brushed his face, like a gentle hand. The moonlight bathed the streets, like a hazy veil.

Midnight had passed, and it was now nearing dawn.

On the streets, aside from Yu Xie, only the occasional patrolling soldier could be seen, and no one else.

Yet, the reaction from the Gnosis had not disappeared, and Yu Xie continued his search.

He had searched through most of Liyue Harbor, but still hadn't found the figure that had crossed the vast sea to reach him.

Could it be that he was mistaken?

Could it be that the person Xiangling mentioned wasn't Makoto or Ei? Could it be that the strange reaction from the Gnosis wasn't because Makoto or Ei had come close?

In moments of frustration, it's natural for one to doubt their previous judgments.

At this moment, the moon slipped behind the clouds, and the moonlight was obscured, casting Liyue Harbor's streets into darkness.

Yu Xie sighed softly, giving a helpless smile as he turned to head toward the last place.

If he couldn't find any trace of her, he would reconsider his next steps.

Perhaps he had been overthinking it all along.

Just then, footsteps came from around the corner ahead, footsteps that felt strangely familiar.

The moon emerged from behind the clouds, casting its pure light once more, illuminating the streets of Liyue Harbor.

A purple figure stepped out from the corner, coming into Yu Xie's view.
