Kado, carrying a large bag that resembled a rat sneaking off with food, tiptoed toward the ship's side and slid down the "cat's claw"
"Ahahaha, as expected, when this lord takes action, it's truly remarkable!" Kado laughed loudly, standing with his hands on his hips, looking at the pile of Berry in the treasure room of the Kado ship after dumping the contents of his bag.
"This must be almost 100 million Berry, this pirate crew is too rich!" Fite's eyes gleamed with greed as he quickly estimated the approximate value of the treasure.
"Hehe, if every ship has this much, wouldn't we be rolling in it?" Kado once again got lost in his fantasies.
"Enough with the silly grins, get to work!" Fite snapped. "While this pirate ship hasn't realized what's going on yet, let's go hit a few more ships. Otherwise, if the people on this one cause a commotion, it'll be harder to take action on other pirate ships that are getting more alert."
"You're right, opportunities like this are rare, we should take advantage of the time," Kado said, picking up the bag from the ground, slinging it over his back, and setting his sights on another seemingly wealthy pirate ship.
The two of them had spent the whole morning looting treasures from various ships. As the saying goes, "those who walk along the riverbank are bound to get their shoes wet." After looting more than ten pirate ships, Kado was finally spotted by a pirate who went out to relieve himself. Despite Kado's quick reflexes, he was almost caught.
The morning passed quickly, and the treasure room of the Kado ship was now piled with treasure worth approximately several billion berry. The value of these treasures might even surpass five or six Devil Fruits, but Devil Fruits are rare and hard to come by—they aren't so easily bought.
What surprised Kado was that, despite all these pirate ships having been waiting here for an entire morning, there was still no sign of the Iron Fist Pirate Crew. Were the members of the Iron Fist Pirate Crew planning to wait until the end of the hunting tournament tomorrow before handing over the Golden Scaled fish for the Chef Alliance's evaluation?
There were now many pirates who shared this thought, and they had little hope of ambushing the Iron Fist Pirate Crew. Some of the smaller pirate crews had already sailed back into the deeper parts of the sea, foolishly hoping to find an ingredient even more precious than the Golden Scaled fish in such a short time.
As for Kado, he had lost interest in stealing treasures. The main reason was that he had already been discovered once. The person who spotted him had caused a commotion, and soon all the pirates in the area knew there was a thief stealing treasures. This made everyone more vigilant, and trying to steal again had become much more difficult, with a higher chance of getting caught. Although Kado wasn't afraid of being caught, even the best of men can't stand against a pack of wolves. Those pirates who knew that their treasures had been stolen by Kado would likely team up and make trouble for him.
After stealing several billion in treasure, Kado was satisfied. At this moment, after changing into a new outfit, he openly parked his ship on the sea, acting as if he, too, was waiting to ambush the Iron Fist Pirate Crew.
The nearby pirates, seeing his arrogant demeanor, would never have guessed that the person in front of them—who seemed so eager for everyone to know who he was—was actually the thief who had stolen their treasures.
As the sun began to set, nearing the afternoon, the Iron Fist Pirate Crew still hadn't been spotted. However, some pirate ships that had made some gains were gradually returning.
The pirate crews waiting to ambush the Iron Fist Pirates, seeing no hope of their plan succeeding, turned their attention to the pirate ships that had just returned. They aimed to seize the prey those ships had acquired. While they knew that these catches couldn't compare to the golden-scaled kingfish, what if something unexpected happened? If the Iron Fist Pirates hadn't brought back the prized fish, perhaps the ingredients they managed to steal would have a chance at winning the championship.
With this thought in mind, many pirates joined in, and once again, a bloody storm erupted across the sea. Cannonfire, howls, and screams filled the air, echoing across the entire coastline.
Many of the residents of Logue Town had gathered along the coastline, eager to watch the spectacle. As they saw large groups of pirates fighting amongst themselves, they cheered and shouted excitedly, as if they were watching a gladiatorial contest in ancient Rome. To them, these pirates were nothing more than scum. Every pirate who fell meant one less threat to their peaceful lives. They all believed it would be better if every last pirate were to die, and not a single person felt sympathy for the pirates' agonizing screams.
"Boom..."
A stray cannonball exploded near the Kado ship, sending a wave that drenched both Kado and Fite.
"Hey, Captain Kado, should we join in the loot scramble too?" Fite wiped the water off his body and looked at Kado.
"Why join in? If we just wait a little longer, the chance with a 100% success rate will come to us. Why waste energy on a one-in-a-million chance right now?" Kado paused for a moment, then pointed at several large, imposing pirate ships that no one dared to touch. "Look, none of these powerful pirate crews are joining the scramble. They're all conserving their strength, waiting for the moment to strike."
Among the pirate ships Kado pointed to was the Snow Bear Pirate Crew, with a bounty of 84 million.
On that ship, there was a round, plump figure — the captain of the Snow Bear Pirate Crew, a user of the Soft-Soft Fruit, with a bounty of 84 million, known as Snow Bear.
Fite glanced at Kado but didn't say anything further. He returned to the cabin and strapped his strange fishing rod to his back. He knew that once Kado chose to wait, there would inevitably be a confrontation with the Snow Bear Pirate Crew. This was no ordinary crew — they weren't like the small-time pirates they had encountered before. If they weren't prepared, things could end very badly.
The sun was about to set, and the sky was growing dim as dusk approached.
On the sea, reflecting the red light of the setting sun, a pirate ship could be seen drifting in the distance.
"Look! That's the Iron Fist Pirate Crew's ship, they're back!"
"Yeah, I recognize that ship. It's definitely the Iron Fist Pirate Crew's. They've finally returned!"
Upon hearing these comments, the pirates who had been fighting stopped their actions. At the command of their respective captains, they returned to their own ships and headed toward the distant Iron Fist Pirate Crew's vessel.
The Snow Bear Pirate Crew also spotted the Iron Fist Pirate Crew's ship in the distance. At Snow Bear's command, they steered their massive pirate ship forward, crushing anyone who dared to stand in their way as the ship surged ahead with immense force.
With no obstacles in their path, the Snow Bear Pirate Crew was the first to reach the vicinity of the Iron Fist Pirate Crew's ship.
Both Kado and Fite felt a sense of urgency. They piloted their ship at full speed, but in comparison, their ship lagged far behind, barely making any headway. As a result, they ended up at the very back of the group.
"Damn it, we need to save money, save money! I have to get the Kado ship upgraded; this speed is just too slow!" Kado roared in frustration, watching as pirate ships zipped past him, overtaking his vessel.
Finally, the Kado ship reached the vicinity of the Iron Fist Pirate Crew. To Kado's surprise, there was no sign of battle on the Iron Fist ship. Instead, there was only a bloodied person lying motionless on the deck.
By the time Kado arrived, the Snow Bear Pirate Crew had already left, and there were no foolish pirates trying to block their way.
Pirates on the ships near the Kado ship were discussing among themselves:
"Isn't that the captain of the Iron Fist Pirate Crew? Who could have injured him like this, with a bounty of 61 million? Could it have been the Snow Bear Pirate Crew just now?"
"Idiot, how did your brain come to that conclusion? The Snow Bear Pirate Crew only arrived a little earlier. No matter how strong they are, they couldn't have defeated the Iron Fist Pirate Crew in such a short time."
"I know, I know... I heard that someone had already stolen the Iron Fist Pirate Crew's Golden Scale Fish. Their entire crew was wiped out, and this ship just drifted back on its own."
"What? How is that possible? Who has such power to wipe out the entire Iron Fist Pirate Crew?"
"I heard it was the Green Hat Pirate Crew. Their captain has a bounty of 55 million berries."
"The Green Hat Pirate Crew? Have you heard of them? I've never heard that name before."
From these discussions, Kado already understood the general situation. It seemed the Green Hat Pirate Crew had struck first.
"Hey, look over there! That pirate flag, isn't it the Green Hat Pirate Crew's?"
Suddenly, a loud shout attracted the attention of many pirate crews, and their gazes all turned towards the distance.
Sure enough, a massive pirate ship was slowly approaching. On its mast, there was a flag with a skull wearing a green hat.
"The Green Hat Pirate Crew! It really is the Green Hat Pirate Crew! Brothers, follow me! Let's steal their Golden-scaled Carp!"
A group of pirates shouted and cheered, and many pirate ships headed towards the Green Hat Pirate Crew.
