Baby's Fangs

Early the next morning, the Griffin family began preparations for their move to the mountains.

Bernard contacted one of his trusted subordinates, the head of the construction section of his conglomerate, and charged him with the duty of building a very large wooden house in a valley near a large lake.

With access to the best machinery and materials, the house was fully constructed in just a month, although, the contractors and engineers were quite confused about the specifications given them for the height and design of each room in the house.

There were several dozen large solar panels installed on the small flat land behind the house to provide electricital power to the house and the water pumping and filtration systems that were connected to a small water reservoir.

They filled the house with anything and everything that would make living in the mountains, as comfortable as possible for their family.

A week after the construction and installations were completed, final arrangements were made and the family moved from their manor in the city to their new "simple" home in the mountains.

They quickly settled in and soon, they adapted to living the simpler life.

....

A week passed after the expected due date but Vivian still had no indication of going into labor. They also realised that her appetite had increased in an exaggerating manner, consuming three times more than normal before she felt satisfied; five times a day.

Even with her increased appetite, Vivian still maintained her slender form albeit being a little plumber due to her pregnancy.

"This is strange", Daniel said as he scanned Vivian's womb with his portable ultrasound scanner.

"Is anything wrong with the baby?" Bernard asked in a worried tone.

"There is nothing wrong. That's the problem", Daniel said in a puzzled tone. "I don't get your meaning", Vivian said.

"From the readings, it seems the baby isn't fully matured enough to be born yet. I'm guessing it is due to its metahuman genes. It probably needs more time and energy to develop. I believe that is the reason for Vivian's increased appetite".

"The baby is absorbing close to ninety-five percent of the energy and nutrients frm all the food she is eating so she has to compensate by eating more. We just have to wait and bare with it until he's ready to be born", Dr. Hathaway hypothesized.

Three months later, Vivian finally went into labor.

The house was in turmoil as preparations were quickly made. Betty Clide, the head maid of the Griffin household who was chosen to accompany them, delivered all the prepared materials as Dr. Hathaway and Bernard escorted Vivian to the in-built delivery room in the basement level of the house.

They laid her gently on the delivery table and Dr. Hathaway proceeded to hook her up to the monitoring devices.

With everything set up, Daniel asked Bernard to hold Vivian's hands and comfort her while he asked Vivian, a first time, mother, to remain calm and push with all her might.

After what seemed to be hours of pushing, Vivian let out a loud scream as the head of the baby began to crown.

A sudden red glow was emitted from the baby as its head appeared, stunning everyone; Betty more so than the others. She almost collapsed onto the delivery room floor.

"Come on, push! You can do it!" Dr. Hathaway, after releasing himself from his stunned stipor, encouraged as he aided the birth by lightly tugging on the baby's head.

A couple minutes of painful pushing later, Vivian finally succeeded in birthing the child.

"Congratulations!" Daniel announced after cutting the umbilical cord and turned to the stunned Betty. "Pass me that towel, will you?" he asked Betty who obeyed immediately.

The baby had feathered-leather wings wrapped around his tiny little body.

"You did well honey. I'm proud of you", Bernard said as he kissed his slightly pale wife amidst her tears of joy.

Daniel gently wrapped the baby with the towel and took him to the nearby wash basin.

After gently cleaning the baby, he brought him closer to the bed. When he lifted the baby out of the towel, the baby, who had been quiet all this while, started to cry.

The sound of the baby's shrill cry was quite ear piercing; enough to cause damage if your ears were too sensitive.

The feathered-leather-like wings that were wrapped around the baby suddenly opened up and spread out simultaneously. They began to flap up and down in a haphazard manner.

Even though he was just a new born, and the wings barely had any strength, the power currently in them were strong enough to lift Dr. Hathaway slightly off the ground.

The doctor instinctively hooked the bed frame with his leg, and with great strength, pulled himself to the ground.

He pulled the baby to his side and began trying to calm him down. Once the baby stopped crying, the wings stopped flapping and cuddled together on its back.

The baby's reptilian tail unwound and slowly swayed from side to side. He had scales all over his body and tail with small feather like fur trailing down the spine of the tail.

He also had tiny claws and talons on his little baby fingers and toes as well as horn protrusions on his head.

'These are definiely why Vivian had a hard time delivering. The extra appendages were not making it easy for her', Dr. Hathaway thought to himself observing the baby's extra appendages.

The baby slightly opened its eyes and Dr. Hathaway froze. It revealed two yellowish-reptilian eyes that seemed to stare into his soul. The contrast between the baby's adorable face and the terrifying eyes were uncanny.

Daniel proceeded to hand the baby over to his mother to hold and to breastfeed. Immediately she took hold of her baby boy, he began to purr and his tail swayed faster in excitement.

"It feels like he's purring", Vivian said with a smile as she began breastfeeding him.

After a few seconds of breast feeding, Vivian felt a sharp pinch on her nipple. She withdrew her breasts from the baby's mouth and observed it.

There were two small drops of blood oozing near her nipple. He started to whimper, and Bernard saw a stunned look on Vivian's face.

He drew closer to her bed and froze as well. Not only did the baby have reptile-like features but the baby had small fangs lining the inside of his mouth.

"I wonder how sharp they are", Dr. Hathaway thought to himself as he drew closer and touched the tip of one of the baby's fangs.

Blood oozed out of his finger instantly as the fangs were extremely sharp.

"Damn it! That's sharp", he said out loud as he cleaned the blood of his finger.

"Oh, my goodness, does this mean I can no longer breastfeed him without risking bleeding out?" Vivian asked with a rather despondent look.

"I believe that will be for the best. Although, there are breast pumps and several types of feeding bottles that can easily assist you in breastfeeding him", Daniel suggested.

standing behind them, Betty, who had been petrified by shock all this while, finally collapsed to the ground.

"Oh jeez", Dr. Hathaway said as he attended to her. He carried her to her room and laid her on her bed.

It took several days for Betty to come to terms with the fact that a human-whatever hybrid had been born right before her very eyes. Any normal person would have fled in this situation but her loyalty to the Griffin house kept her there.

Bernard and Vivian decided to name him, Samuel Griffin, after Bernard's grandfather on his .

Their child looked extremely intelligent as he stared at his parents almost as if he could follow their conversation.

"Samuel, we swear to keep you safe and happy as long as we live", Bernard swore as he hugged his wife and child and little Samuel started giggling loudly.
