The little girl rose to her feet, walked to the stream and plunged her head in, thoroughly washing her face several times just to make sure she was still awake.
She stared at her reflection intently trying to wake up from this insanely detailed lucid dream. I really am not dreaming", she finally accepted and splashed herself once more in the face.
She walked back and sat beside him on the blanket. "Here", he said and handed her a small towel. "Thanks", she said as she took it and dried her face.
"What smells so good?" she asked after catching a whiff of the sweet aroma emanating from the picnic basket.
"Oh right, it's my favorite meat pie made by my mom", he said as he brought the steaming pie out of the basket. He also brought out small plates and a bottle of cold juice.
"Do you always carry these things with you?" she asked intrigued. "Not really, I like adventuring so my mom always prepares snacks for me to pick up when I'm hungry", he answered as he served her and then served himself.
After both of them had had second helpings of the pie, he packed up the basket and folded up the blanket.
He set the basket near some flowers and turned to her, "I know it's a little late asking this but...are you not afraid of me", he asked suddenly.
"Well, it depends. Do you plan on hurting me?" she asked in a nonchalant manner.
"No, of course not", he replied. "Well then, there is your answer", she said with a smile that stunned him.
He smiled in return as he turned to hide his flustered face.
'He is so cute', she thought to herself as her smile brightened.
"So, you guys are here camping huh!" he stated trying to change the subject.
"Yeah, we'll be here a couple of days", she responded. "Then would you like a personal tour guide for the duration of your stay?" he asked.
"Would you really do that?" she asked excitedly. "Of course. So, do you want to start now?" he asked her as he stood to his feet and shook the dust off his wings.
"Really... now?! Eh...sure, okay. Let's go", she answered as she stood up with a hop.
"Follow me!" he said as he started walking towards the stream, his large tail swaying from side to side behind him.
As they strolled leisurely downstream, she asked the question that had been boggling her mind since she first met him.
"So, do you mind if I asked you a sort of personal question? And you don't need to answer if you don't want to" she asked.
"Shoot", he responded as he skipped a rock on the surface of the water.
"I want to know; are you a demon?" she asked taking him completely by surprise and causing him to stumble.
"I hope not! I mean, I think not", he responded a little agitated. "Well, are you human or what?" she asked curiously.
"Sort of, it's a bit complicated. I am not too sure myself. My parents told me I'm something called a meta human", he answered.
"Really...what is that?" she asked. "Well, I'm not sure but, I remember they said something about being a little different than regular humans. It seems I'm a special case even among other meta humans", he explained.
"Are your parents Meta humans like you?" she asked again even more curious than before.
"No...they are not. My parents are definitely regular humans", he answered.
After a few minutes of walking along the stream, he turned to look at the clear stream water.
"How about a swim?" Samuel asked her as they arrived at the deeper and clearer portion of the stream.
"I can't. I don't know how to swim", she answered in an embarrassed look on her face.
"Then, how about I give you a ride downstream", he said as he dove headfirst into the stream.
"Really, won't that make us sink?" she asked a little scared.
"Don't worry about it. I'm extremely buoyant. And besides. this is part of your tour. Get onto my back", he instructed and floated closer to the shore.
He opened up his left wing and stretched it out to her, placing it before her feet to aid her.
She reluctantly climbed onto the magnificent wing before her and gently walked across it, reaching Samuel's body and getting onto his back.
She sat on his back and let her legs swim in the cool fresh water of the stream.
"Alright, hold on to me", he said as, with a wave of his strong reptilian tail, they started to move, going along with the current's flow and heading downstream.
They came across several fresh water aquatic creatures that were normally territorial but they seemed to ignore him completely, almost as if he was part of their world.
As they moved along with the slow current of the stream, they came across a float of freshwater crocodiles.
"Are you sure we should be going close to them?" she asked in a whisper. "It's fine", he said as they approached the float.
A spooked crocodile growled, but upon witnessing the cause of its spook, ignored them and turned away.
"See!" he said with a smile as they swam alongside the creatures who seemed to completely ignore the duo's presence.
"This is incredible. This is the closest I've ever been to a crocodile", she said with an excited smile.
"Nothing else will ever beat this right?" he asked excitedly.
"Yeah. This is most likely a once in a lifetime experience ", she replied with an equally excited tone of voice.
She did not realize it, but, they had just swam over a four meter long anaconda, chilling at the bottom of the stream.
Like all the others, the creature had completely ignored them as they passed by.
Not wanting her to panic, Samuel snickered as he kept on swimming ahead.
The duo swam for a couple more minutes; almost getting to an hour, before they reached a tributary that looked more like a small lake.
They encountered all manner of creatures quenching their thirsts with the water from the lake or just merely communing with each other near it.
They got out of the water and using the strong winds generated from his wings, dried them off completely.
"That was so much fun, especially the part with those big scary crocs. I'm still surprised they left us alone" she said excitedly.
"I always swim with them. They are used to me. I did get into a fight with them the first time though", Samuel said with a laugh.
"And you won?!" she asked loudly in surprise.
"Yeah. I happened to be a tad bit stronger", he said proudly as she looked at him with awe.
"Let's continue with the tour then, shall we?", he asked as he gently held her hand and led her into the sea of trees.
