Gasp!
Sister Evelyn's eyes snapped open, her chest rising and falling in heavy, uneven breaths.
She sat up abruptly, her body drenched in sweat, her fingers clutching the fabric of her robe.
Her heart raced.
Her breathing was shallow.
She looked around, her vision slowly adjusting.
She was back in the Holy Room. The candles still flickered. The air was still warm.
It was as if nothing had changed.
Except…
Her eyes darted forward.
Liam was still there.
Sitting in the chair, watching her with an unreadable expression.
Her breath caught in her throat.
His red eyes gleamed.
His brows furrowed, and he stared back at her with a confused look.
"Are you okay… Sister Evelyn?" He asked.
Evelyn's eyes widened at his words, her face squeezing into a frown.
Is he really asking me that… after what he just did? she thought, gnashing her teeth in annoyance.
