Chapter 308: Killing Red Skull Along the Way

"How could this happen?"

Quill pressed against the ship's glass, staring in disbelief as the entire city of Asgard was enveloped in a translucent golden energy shield. Soldiers were being rounded up and escorted toward the golden hall.

Alan was not aboard the ship. He was already en route to Vormir. Before the team even planned their return to Asgard, he had left the Guardians of the Galaxy, taking Wanda and Nebula with him on his own ship.

He knew that Gamora's quest for the Soul Stone would inevitably require a sacrifice. Alan speculated that either Nebula would sacrifice herself, or Gamora would.

In the original Marvel Cinematic Universe, it was supposed to be Hawkeye and Black Widow who arrived on Vormir, with Black Widow sacrificing herself to obtain the Soul Stone. But the timeline had already changed, and now it was Gamora and Nebula standing in that place of sacrifice.

With the ship's faster-than-light engine and the added power of the Space Stone, it didn't take long for Alan to reach Vormir.

Under the dim sky, Alan spotted Gamora and Nebula standing at the edge of a cliff while Red Skull spoke to them. After giving Wanda and Groot a few instructions, he pushed open the hatch and leaped down.

His golden Emperor Armor split the murky air in half as he landed stylishly in front of them.

Red Skull's eyes gleamed with a sinister light.

Just one more step, and he could finally leave Vormir!

But Alan's sudden arrival shattered that illusion. Red Skull waved his hands, hurling Gamora and Nebula aside, then turned his full attention to Alan.

"You dare to ruin my plans? I will kill you!"

Alan sneered. While others might be unaware of Red Skull's true identity, he had long since recognized him. He glanced at him with contempt and said in a deep voice, "Red Skull, Johann Schmidt... so you're still alive."

Red Skull let out a chilling laugh, pulling back his hood to reveal his grotesque, skeletal face.

"You know my identity? You must be from Earth, aren't you?"

Alan calmly stepped forward. "That's right. Not only am I from Earth, but I also know someone you're very familiar with."

"Who?"

There was a subtle shift in Red Skull's tone as a familiar name surfaced in his mind.

"Steve Rogers."

---

Red Skull's ghostly form flickered, as if struck by an invisible force. Hearing Captain America's name seemed to pull him back to the wartime era when he was defeated and sent to Vormir by the Space Stone.

Here, he had endured endless torment, cursed to live in isolation. Though he possessed immortality, he was consumed by loneliness.

...

Red Skull blamed everything on Captain America. He hated Steve Rogers to his core. If he could leave Vormir today, the first thing he would do was hunt down Captain America and exact his revenge.

To him, Vormir was nothing more than a place of exile.

"Why isn't he dead yet?!" Red Skull roared, transforming into a swirling crimson mist as he lunged at Alan. As the guide of the Soul Stone, he had no physical body here and was confident that Alan couldn't defeat him.

But just as Red Skull attacked, Alan's hand glowed with a brilliant green light. As the embodiment of willpower, the Green Lantern's power could manifest anything Alan imagined.

Channeling the energy into his Aurora Sword, he struck at the approaching black mist with unstoppable force.
