"Do you want to hold her?" Alex asks, looking up at me

I nod my head and wipe away the tears of happiness that had escaped my eyes. I reach out for Scarlett and hold her in my arms. She was so beautiful.

"Hi Scarlett, it's nice to finally meet you" I say with happiness

I look over at Alexandra who had been doing so well..until now..

It was like she was waiting to just pass Scarlett over to me so that she can finally stop trying to keep strong.

"Alex?" I ask as I see her start to get pale 

"Ace, I don't feel too well" she says with pain in her voice

All of a sudden the nurses rush by her side and start to inject something into her V. I call out her name but she doesn't respond.

I don't remember what happens next but a nurse takes

Scarlett out of my arms and I rush by Alex's side.

"Is she okay? What's happening? Alex?" I call out with worry

I then feel Dr. Ashley grab my arm and turns me to face him 

"Ace, calm down" he says 

"Is she going to be okay? What's happening? Ashley tell me she's gonna be okay please" 

"She lost a lot of energy Ace, we're doing everything we can to help her gain some strength back. Once she is stable, we can try and operate but right now we need to help her" he says 

"Wha-what can I do to help?" I ask 

"I need you to go outside and let us do our job" he says

I start to shake my head frantically 

"N-no, please I don't want to leave her side" I say 

"Ace, I promise she will be okay. Just give us a little bit of time" Dr. Ashley says and starts to escort me out of the room

 "You also need to go with the nurses to be with Scarlett. I will call you once Alex is stable, I promise. Now go"

I let out a breath and nod my head, leaving the room.

Sitting in the waiting room, I realize how time barely passes when you are waiting. I felt like years were going by for each minute. Sitting there alone waiting for any update with Alex, I hear people come in.

Looking up, I'm met with Molly who was rushing in with a pink teddy bear. A bright smile was on her face until she saw me sitting.

"A-Ace, what happened? Is Alex okay? The baby?" she asks with worry

I stand up and nod my head 

"Yes Molly, the baby is doing great. It's just Alex lost a lot of energy. I'm waiting for an update but they said that if she becomes stable, then they might be able to operate and remove parts of the tumour." I say 

"Oh that's great news!!! She will be okay, I told you, she will be okay" Molly says and gives me a hug

I hug her back tightly

I hope she will be okay.

Dr. Ashley enters the waiting room area and I immediately turn to him.

"Dr.Ash-" 

"She's stable. We need to take her into surgery soon.

She's not doing very well, but she's stable" he says

I nod my head

 "Can I see her?" I ask 

"Yes, her surgery is scheduled for in a couple hours, during this time, she is allowed to see any friends or family but she needs to maintain the little energy that she has left." 

"Of course, okay" I say nodding my head

But he interrupts me, wanting to tell me something that he was hesitant about

 "A-ace, this surgery..." 

"What is it Ashley?" I ask him

 "T-theres, there's no guarantee that it will help. She has a very slight chance Ace." he says 

I pinch the bridge of my nose and take a seat

It was like we were banging on doors with no one answering any of them. We were stuck with no where to go.

"And if she doesn't do the surgery?" I ask

Dr. Ashley lets out a sigh and looks avway "...She's very weak Ace, she won't make it till the end of day" he says with his voice breaking

I had nothing to say.

"But if the surgery goes well, it will give her more time.

We can then start chemo and put her onto a plan to help the aggressive cancer. We will have more options, but right now, doing the surgery is our only option Ace" he says taking a seat beside me

Staring at the hospital wall, I felt like everything he was 

saying was entering one ear and was going out the other. 

This didn't feel real.

"Ace?" he calls out

I snap out of it and nod my head.

"I want to see her" I say and stand up, walking to her hospital room.

Pulling myself together, I walk in and see her lying on the bed. She had an oxygen mask on. Her head immediately turns towards me.

"Ace" she calls out weakly

I walk to her side and place my hand in hers, giving ita slight squeeze. My heart in that moment was breaking into a million pieces. Seeing her in this state, knowing there was nothing in my power to help her right this moment, was breaking me inside.

"Alexandra" I say gently, with a small smile 

I take a seat in the chair right beside her bed. Placing a kiss on her forehead, I rest my forehead against hers and we both close our eyes, taking in the silence.

Hearing her sniffle, I open my eyes to see tears streaming down her cheek. Mine finally give up as well.

I wipe her tears with my thumb as she moves over her 

OXygen mask.

"You're going to be okay, you're the strongest person I know."

She nods her head

 "Dr. Ashley says you're stable right now, in a couple hours they will take you in for surgery" she closes her eyes and I can tell she was scared. I had never seen her scared before.

"Hey, hey, listen, this is great. We have options now.

After the surgery, they can finally start a real treatment plan to help slow down the cancer, you will be okay Alex. You can do this, I believe in you" I say grabbing her hand in mine again and turning her chin gently to face me.

"Ace" she calls out

 "Yes my love" 

"How's Scarlett?" she asks

I smile 

"She's doing great, she's so cute" I say thinking of our beautiful baby girl.

"I want to see her" 

"of course" I say and immediately stand up, to call the nrse.

Once I asked them, they immediately bring Scarlett into

Alex's room. She was sleeping in her little bed.

"Mamma, do you want to hold her?" The nurse asks Alex 

"Yes please" Alex says softly with a small smile

The nurse lifts Scarlett and places her in Alex's arms.

"Oh, she's so beautiful" Alex cries

She brings Scarlett closer to her and holds her so tight, never wanting to let go.

"I will give you both some time alone" the nurse says to me. and I nod my head before she leaves

Taking a seat in the chair beside Alex's bed again, I look up at her. She was looking down at Scarlett in her arms and I see her face slowly change from a smile, to sadness.

"Ace" she calls out with tears now streaming down her face 

"I don't want to die" she cries, looking up at me, shaking.

She lets out a sob and I couldn't stop my own tears from streaming down my own face.

"Alexandra-" I call out, trying to calm her but I couldn't even calm my own self 

"Please Ace, please take care of our baby girl" she croaks

Out

I shake my head and place my head in my hands

"I can't Alex, I can't survive without you, please" I sob out, She stops crying and composes herself 

"Ace, look at me. Ace!" she yells a little louder and grabs my cheek

Ilook up at her.

"Listen to me. You must! You need to keep going Ace, not for the sake of me, or your own self, but for our baby girl. You're all she has. And I want you to love her more than you love me." 

I didn't want to hear her saying this ,I shake my head and grab her hand that was placed on my cheek, placing a kiss in the palm of her hand.

"Cherish her, protect her, and always be there for her.

That's all I want Ace, please" she says with her voice getting weaker each time.

"Continue to live your life Ace. Hey, I don't mind you even finding someone after. Re-marry. Life will go on and you must too."

 "Alex-" she cuts me off

 "I want you to find someone who will most importantly, love you, as much as I love you Ace Anderson" she says with her voice finally breaking at the end as she holds my face

Tears streaming down my face, I close my eyes.

"Marry whoever you want, but if you want any help...that girl, from HR, she's pretty nice... What's her name again? Laura?" she starts to jokingly say and I can't help but let out a little laugh admit our crying

 "She's pretty good looking, smart, nice, knows how to cook, she makes the best lasagna!" she says and I shake my head at this woman.

"Marry anyone, But for the love of God, just not Veronica. Oh my, she was never worthy of you Anderson" she says grabbing my chin 

"You're crazy if you think Ill ever find someone after you" I say

She lets out a small smile "You will"

Sitting in our silence, our baby with us, I turn and look up at her.

"So you're not just faking a death here to get some sick revenge on me right?" I ask jokingly 

"Oh yeah of course... in 1 year, I'll have a new face and pretend to be your chauffeur. I'll make you fall in love with me all over again" she says and we both laugh.

This was Alexandra. She somehow always lightened up even the most darkest of moods.

Her laughing starts to turn into a violent cough and I sense her getting weaker again. I take Scarlett who was asleep, out of her arms and place her in her crib beside Alex's bed.

Patting Alex's back, her cough starts to calm down and she places her head back onto her pillow. Letting out a shaky breath, she looks at me 

"Please take care of our baby Ace. 

This was not how our love story was supposed to end, but we've had one of the most interesting love stories. Keep living your life.

You're not the same man from when I first met you. You changed for the better" she says 

"You made me better" 

"Promise me Ace"

Looking into her eyes, my heart completely breaks.

"I promise"

She nods her head feeling a bit of relief 

"Thank you" she whispers

I place a kiss on her lips and she pulls me closer, giving everything we both had into this kiss.

"I love you forever Ace Anderson" 

"I love you forever Alexandra Grace" I whisper back

After a few more moments of both of us being alone,

Alexandra was ready for visitors.

Molly was the first one to come in and was so happy to see both Scarlett and Alex.

Alexandra stayed positive and happy throughout all the visitors who came in to see her, including Sarah and

Leila and a few other people from work.

Molly turned to Alex and held her hand. 

"You're gonna be okay my dear. We are all praying for you and trust me, this surgery will go well. I just know it" she says and places a kiss on her cheek, Alex nods her head with a smile and squeezes Molly's hand, 

"Thank you Molly, for everything. You have been a mother to me" she says and a tear slides down Mollys cheek

She hugs Alex and squeezes her tight.

Dr. Ashley's wife also came to visit Alex and the baby, and a few more of our close friends.

After everyone had came and gone, Dr. Ashley enters the room.

"Alex, it's time" he says

She nods her head and looks at me.

I immediately place my lips on hers and she holds my face, bringing it closer.

"Remember everything I told you. And how much I love you okay?" she whispers, pulling away from the kiss and looking into my eyes

I nod my head, "You're going to make it Alex. I believe in you" I say

Once the nurses got her ready, they pushed her bed out of her room and took her to the surgery room, she disappears through the doors and I was now left in the dark. Not knowing what is going to happen next.

Finding myself back in the waiting room, I had Molly by my side as we both waited there, for hours.

From time to time, I would go up to the hospital nursery to check up on Scarlett but as the hours went by, I saw the door open and Dr. Ashley emerge.

I stand up immediately and walk towards him not knowing what I was going to expect..

"Ace-" he starts to say

My heart breaks. Please don't tell me- 

"The surgery went very well" is what he says

I feel goosebumps throughout my body, and a big smile forms on my face and Mollys.

"We were able to successfully remove parts of the tumour and Alex did a great job" I can't help but pull him in for a hug as tears of happiness slide down my face

 "Thank you Ashley, thank you so fucking much"

He lets out a little laugh from joy and hugs me back 

"She's in her room, it will be a couple hours before she wakes up but you can go see her once she's awake" he says and I nod my head

Joy, happiness, I-I can't even explain what I was feeling right now.

I turn to Molly and she gives me a hug "I told you she was going to be okay" she says with happiness.

The next couple hours couldn't have gone by any faster.

Seeing her nurse open her room door, she comes up to me 

"Mr. Anderson, your wife is awake. She's asking for you" she says

I jolt up and make my way to her room. Opening the door, a big smile stretches across my face when I see her beautiful brown eyes looking back at me

"I told you, you were going to be okay" I say taking a seat beside her bed

She nods her head slowly with a smile on her lips

 "I hate to say this, but I guess you were right" she says with a laugh 

"How are you feeling?" I ask

 "I can't really feel anything but I think... good?" she says making a face

We both laugh

I pull something out of my pocket

"I have a little gift for you"I say and show her a small box 

"You didn't have to get me anything" she says 

"It's just a little appreciation gift, for not leaving me" I whisper the last part

I open the box, showing her the small bracelet.

"Oh Ace, its so beautiful... Thank you" she says softly 

"You're beautiful" I answer back and give her a light kiss on her lips and then put the bracelet on her wrist.

The nurse walks in and we both turn to her 

"Mrs. Anderson, how are you feeling?" 

"Pretty good" she says

"Maybe you'll feel even better if you see your baby?" the nurse asks

 "Yes! I definitely will" Alex says

The nurse smiles, "Then I will bring you your baby girl now"'

As she leaves, Alex tries to sit up.

"What are you doing?" I ask

 "Just help me up, I want to sit up a bit" she says 

"You just came out of surgery Alex, I don't think that's a great idea"

However she continues to try and push herself up.

As I was about to help her, she suddenly stops moving 

"Alex?" I ask

For a second she doesn't move, but then her body starts to twitch.

"Alexandra? Are you okay?" I ask standing up, with my voice getting louder

I see her mouth start to foam and I yell for the nurse

 "NURSE!!!!" I yell

 "Alexandra" I call out and try to do something to help her, Immediately the nurses and Doctors walk in, running to

Alex's side 

"ALEX!" I yell 

"WHAT"S HAPPENING? WHAT"S WRONG WITH HER?!" I yell at the Doctors

Dr. Ashley was also in the room, yelling at the other doctors to give him something

I didn't know what was happening 

"Dr. Ashley, What's happening!?" I ask him and he yells at a nurse 

"GET HIM OUT OF HERE!"

 "NO!" I yell but then suddenly feel two arms pushing me out of the hospital room 

"No, ALEX!" I yell 

"Sir, Please we need you to leave the room" 

"No please" I yell with tears

I felt lost, what was happening?

Molly see's me outside the room and runs to me

 "ACE!? What's wrong!?" she yells

 "I don't know!"I answer

And then, Dr. Ashley opens the door.

And that's when I knew. It was all over.

"n-no, no, NO!" I yell falling to the ground

Everything suddenly turned white. I didn't know what was happing anymore.

"Ace I'm sorry. We did everything we could" he says

 "Ace?" I hear a familiar voice call out in worry, but I couldn't get off the floor. I felt stuck

I see Jennifer bending down in-front of my face, holding flowers and a baby balloon

 "Ace what happened?" she yells 

Not receiving an answer from me, she drops everything she was holding to the ground and runs into the hospital room.

All I heard was her screaming and crying.

And I don't remember anything after that.

I open the door and try to find the light switch in the dark. 

Finally pressing it, the empty house fills with brightness.

Carrying Scarlett who was fast asleep in her car seat, I walk into the kitchen and set her down.

I look at the glass of orange juice sitting on the counter from this morning. And I think of her.

Just hours ago, she was here. And now I was alone.
