Chapter 104 - Not Alone Until the Last Breath

The door to the cabin slammed open, and Lucien was through it in a heartbeat. Kah'el didn't hesitate, frantically colliding with it to close it behind them. He moved toward the shelves, pulling down a small bundle of supplies with practiced ease. "The arrow is coated," he said sharply, his tone grim. "It's spreading fast—we don't have much time."

Taryn's vision swam, the room tilting as a fresh wave of pain tore through her. Sweat beaded on her brow, her face pale, and her body shook faintly as the poison worked through her like fire.

Lucien dropped to his knees with Taryn in his arms, pulling her against him as he settled her in his lap. His arm slid beneath her shoulders, supporting her head as her body sagged against his chest. Blood seeped through his fingers where he pressed against the wound, and her breath hitched sharply, a sound that cut through him more than he'd care to admit.
