"What?!"
Tsunade couldn't help but exclaim after hearing Uchiha Mirai's demand.
She wouldn't be allowed to leave the village until she paid back her debt?
Tsunade was well aware of how much she owed outside the village. By a conservative estimate, it was over a billion ryo. Where could she possibly get that kind of money?
Angrily, she snapped, "Who told you to pay off my debts without asking me?"
Uchiha Mirai raised an eyebrow. "Isn't paying off debts a basic principle?"
"That money was borrowed with my own skills. Why should I pay it back?" Tsunade retorted, shamelessly confident.
Seeing her self-righteous attitude, Mirai couldn't be bothered to argue further. He simply said, "The village has already paid your debts. Now, you need to repay the village."
Tsunade gritted her teeth, momentarily at a loss for words. She'd seen Mirai in action, his strength was undeniable and far beyond her ability to contend with. Besides, with the entire village under his control, forcing her way out was out of the question.
Work off her debt in Konoha? With such an astronomical sum, how long would that take?
As Tsunade struggled with her options, Mirai smiled gently.
"Tsunade, as the village leader, I can't let you off the hook. But as a friend, I can offer you a solution."
Suspicious of his intentions, Tsunade took a cautious step back. "What solution?"
Mirai casually summoned a large quantity of gold dust from the gourd at his waist.
"You're aware I've inherited the Magnet Release, right?" he said. "And with my current status, money is no issue."
Tsunade's eyes lit up. "Are you saying you'll pay off my debt?"
Mirai twitched at her suggestion.
If I paid it all off, how would I keep you in check?
He forced a smile. "I'm saying I can lend you some money. Of course, it won't be enough to cover your entire debt."
Tsunade rolled her eyes. "What's the point, then?"
"You can take the money to the casino," Mirai suggested. "With your skills, you might win enough to pay everything off in just a few days."
"How much can you lend me?" she asked casually.
Mirai held up three fingers.
"Thirty thousand ryo?" she guessed, disappointed.
He shook his head.
Her eyes brightened. "Three hundred thousand?"
Mirai grinned. "Thirty million."
Tsunade gasped. "Seriously?!"
"Of course," Mirai confirmed, producing several chests filled with cash. "I have no personal interest in money, so it's just sitting there. Better to lend it to you. However, I'll charge ten percent interest after a month."
"This isn't village money, right?"
"No, it's my personal property."
Tsunade's face broke into a delighted smile. "Since you trust me so much, I'll gladly accept. Wait for my good news!"
Grabbing the chests, she headed for the door but paused. "Do you want me to write an IOU?"
Mirai shook his head. "No need."
Tsunade sauntered out of the Hokage office, her twin ponytails swaying with every step. Once outside, a mocking smirk crept onto her face.
Think you can outsmart me? I'll make sure you lose every ryo.
Tsunade knew her gambling luck was abysmal. She also recognized Mirai's suggestion for what it was: a scheme. But since she couldn't leave Konoha, she might as well enjoy herself at the casino.
It's not my money, so what if I lose it all?
Pay it back? Not a chance. With no assets left in her name, there was nothing Mirai could squeeze out of her. And even if she couldn't repay the loan, what could he do? Lock her up? She was one of the Legendary Sannin and a princess of the Senju Clan. Exile her? That'd suit her just fine. Ruin her reputation? She didn't care about such trivialities.
"You want me to work myself to the bone in Konoha? I'll make sure your thirty million goes up in smoke."
With a carefree attitude, she skipped away, savoring the thought of a good time ahead.
...
In the Hokage's office, Mirai watched her leave.
"Workhorse, huh? A workhorse with twin tails might make for an interesting ride…"
Ten days later, Uchiha Mirai was officially declared the successor to the Fourth Hokage in a ceremony witnessed by Konoha's ninjas and villagers. The Uchiha clan's celebration was grand: drums thundered, firecrackers exploded, banners waved, and people crowded the streets.
For the first time in Konoha's history, an Uchiha would become Hokage.
At the Naka Shrine within the Uchiha compound, the clan's elite gathered. Each displayed their crimson Sharingan without hesitation, proudly showcasing their prowess.
Seated at the head of the assembly, Mirai accepted the clan's reverent bows with calm composure.
From his position, elder Uchiha Renji spoke up.
"Mirai-sama, would you consider revealing your Mangekyō Sharingan to demonstrate your power? It's a tradition dating back to Lord Tajima's era. During clan meetings, everyone would display their Sharingan to gauge each speaker's strength. Though Lord Fugaku abolished the practice, after you imprisoned him, we've reverted to Lord Tajima's customs."
Mirai responded indifferently, "Only the weak need the Sharingan to prove their strength. My presence alone is proof enough."
Renji was momentarily stunned before breaking into a wry smile.
Truly befitting of Lord Mirai.
The elder's heart burned with newfound vigor. In their last meeting, Mirai had criticized him for being overly conservative. Judging by the current state of affairs, he had indeed been too cautious.
After this brief interlude, Mirai was officially instated as the Uchiha clan leader. The next step was securing the Fire Daimyō's approval for his Hokage inauguration.
Recalling the rotund, pompous figure from the Chūnin Exams, Mirai sneered. This was the perfect opportunity to reform the ninja world and eradicate its "unhealthy" practices. Why should ninjas, wielders of unparalleled power, bow to ordinary people?
