"Mirai....?"
Hearing Haku's response, Ryoko finally noticed the man standing silently beside them—Uchiha Mirai.
In a gentle voice, Haku introduced them, "Mirai-sama, this is my mother, Ryoko."
Mirai gave a faint nod, acknowledging her.
Ryoko, however, was frozen in place, staring at Uchiha Mirai in awe.
Never in her life had she seen a man with such striking features.
And this man had brought her back from the dead…
Could it be that the person standing before her was a god walking amongst mortals?
Overwhelmed by the thought, Ryoko dropped to her knees and bowed deeply.
"Mirai-sama, thank you for saving my life."
Mirai's expression didn't change as he asked, "Did the villagers give you any trouble?"
Before Mirai could say anything further, Haku spoke up, almost anxiously.
"Mother, Father and the villagers… they're all dead. Mirai-sama killed them all."
"The ashes you see on the ground... those are all that's left of them after they burned."
Haku's tone carried a hint of awe as he continued, his face lighting up with excitement.
"Back then, Lord Mirai unleashed a sea of fire. It was incredible!"
Hearing Haku's account, Ryoko quickly pieced together what must have happened.
The man before her, Mirai, was undoubtedly a ninja of extraordinary power.
Gathering her thoughts, Ryoko asked timidly, "Mirai-sama, could Haku follow you?"
Mirai raised an eyebrow. "Follow me?"
Ryoko nodded earnestly. "Yes, Haku has the Ice Release Kekkei Genkai. If you're willing to train him, he could become a capable subordinate under your guidance."
Today's events had made one thing abundantly clear to Ryoko: having a Kekkei Genkai without the strength to protect it would only make someone a target for others.
She didn't want her tragedy to repeat itself through Haku. In this chaotic world, only by becoming a ninja could Haku gain the strength to protect himself.
Mirai considered for a moment before responding, "Since the village is destroyed, there's no point in staying here. You wouldn't be able to survive anyway."
"I'm heading toward Kirigakure. You can travel with me for a few days."
"During that time, I'll teach Haku some basics about being a ninja. How much he learns will depend on his aptitude."
Hearing this, both Ryoko and Haku's eyes lit up.
Though Mirai hadn't fully agreed to their request, even a few days of guidance was a great opportunity.
"Let's move."
After handing each of them a ninja pill to regain some energy, Mirai led Ryoko and Haku toward Kirigakure.
As a minor character in the earlier arcs of the original series, Haku had left a strong impression on Mirai.
Now that they had crossed paths, Mirai decided to lend a hand.
Besides, the Ice Release Kekkei Genkai was an ability worth having.
"Ninja strength is rooted in two main areas."
"One is taijutsu, which relies on physical training and development of the body."
"The other is ninjutsu. Performing ninjutsu requires chakra, which is extracted by combining mental energy with physical stamina."
As they traveled, Mirai explained the fundamentals of ninjutsu to Haku, even teaching him the method to extract chakra.
Each day, he would also spar with Haku, providing hands-on experience.
Meanwhile, Ryoko visited Mirai several times late at night while Haku was asleep, seeking his attention.
However, Mirai turned her down every time.
While Ryoko's appearance was considered attractive in their small mountain village, she was merely average in the eyes of someone like Mirai, who had seen countless beautiful women.
Despite her wistful glances, Mirai remained resolute, preserving his composure.

After traveling together for about a week, Mirai finally obtained the power he sought—Ice Release!
Though Ice Release hadn't been portrayed as particularly powerful in the original series, that was largely due to Haku's limited strength.
In Mirai's hands, however, this Kekkei Genkai would reach an entirely different level of performance.
Not to mention, Ice Release was also a visually stunning ability, making it even more appealing to Mirai, who firmly believed that "style is everything."
"That's enough for today's training."
Mirai spoke calmly, and Haku, drenched in sweat, paused to catch his breath.
After a week of effort, Haku had managed to extract a small amount of chakra. Though he couldn't yet perform ninjutsu or use Ice Release, this progress had filled him with confidence in becoming a ninja.
Suddenly, howls echoed in the distance.
Moments later, a pack of white-furred snow wolves appeared, charging toward them.
"It's a wolf pack! Be careful!"
Haku immediately pulled out a kunai and stepped in front of Mirai to shield him.
This instinctive reaction earned a nod of approval from Mirai.
He didn't need his subordinates to be exceptionally powerful—no one could surpass him, after all.
What he valued most in a subordinate was loyalty—absolute obedience and unwavering devotion.
"Stand back, Haku."
Mirai gently patted Haku's head and stepped forward.
Within seconds, the wolves lunged toward him, led by an imposing alpha with gleaming white fur.
The wolf leader bared its claws and pounced.
Mirai exhaled a cold breath, and the temperature around him plummeted.
The wolf leader froze mid-air, encased in ice, before crashing to the snowy ground.
"Ice Release: Ice Crystal!"
In an instant, the entire wolf pack was immobilized, transformed into crystalline statues of ice.
"Amazing!" Haku gasped in admiration.
He remembered when their village had once been attacked by a smaller wolf pack. It had taken significant effort and many casualties to drive the wolves away.
Yet Mirai had effortlessly dealt with the entire pack in the blink of an eye.
Ryoko, too, was stunned.
She had just witnessed Mirai using Ice Release—an ability Haku was supposed to possess.
But Mirai offered no explanation. Breaking apart one of the ice sculptures, he pulled out a frozen wolf and tossed it to the ground.
"Amaterasu."
Black flames rose from the snow as Mirai roasted the wolf's leg over the eternal fire.
Even in the middle of a frozen wilderness, Amaterasu's flames burned unyieldingly.
While it might not have been the strongest technique in battle, as a source of fire for cooking, it was unparalleled.
Only someone like Uchiha Mirai would ever think to use the fabled Amaterasu flames for a barbecue.
