121. Reconnecting with the Past

Nytri arrives over Mirthendom, she's flying in the air with 6 Azurians (Azurites included, Nytri is the only one with wings amongst them.). The capital is like any other big medieval city with a huge church at the east and smaller churches scattered. The east seems to be the wealthy district, the streets are wider and cleaner with people in fancy clothes. At the center of the north is the castle with mansions around it. The west side is for the common people, and the slums to the south.

Nytri gazes to the south and notices a lone church at the center, she smiles feeling nostalgic. This is where her earliest memories were made. She looks at the streets and recollects the time she use to steal food from vendors and sometimes get beat up. She looks further down and notices a missing stall, it belonged to a old man who'd give out meat to Nytri. He was impressed with her will to leave.

Nytri keeps looking around, she sees through building searching for the old man. "He's not in this part of the city." Her vision moves outside the city and notices tombstones. Nytri saddens and sighs, "Looks like I won't get to see them again. The meat old man and the nun are no more, even father is dead. Although father drank a lot he really helped, he'd say alcohol was fuel to work without tiring." Nytri chuckles.

Nytri gazes over the capital, "I wonder how long it's been since I left here." Nytri speaks rubbing her chin, she shrugs. "I don't even know what day it is."

An Azurian, Kael looks at the ground. "Hmmm," His eyes glow and appraises the ground, "It looks like it's been 7 years since you left the orphanage."

Nytri raises a brow, "How could you tell?"

Kael grins, "Nature Reading from Information magic. I simply read back to when you were still here and counted the years till now."

Eryndor, a thin female Azurite speaks. "That's impressive, then doesn't that mean you can look in the past with Nature Reading?"

Kael raises his nose high with pride, "Of course, I'm currently watching little Nytri steal a fruit…Oh, she got caught." He turns to look at Nytri, "You were bad at getting away."

Nytri shrugs, "Well, stealing isn't my strong suit."

Kael rubs his chin, "True, despite being caught, you manage to hide some fruits. Nice."

Lilia, an female Azurian with a gloomy nature speaks, "Can we get down, staying up here is making me want to vomit."

"Oh, sorry Lilia." Nytri speaks warmly, "Let's get down, I forgot you don't do well in high places."

Kaida, energetic female Azurian, wraps her arms around Lilia. "Come on sis, you have to brighten up on such a sunny day!" Lilia shakes her head and hugs her knees.

The remaining 2 remain quiet. Sylwia, adventurous female Azurian pouts because of the delay, she's eager to enter the city. Rhydderch, silent male Azurite has a bird resting on his finger and it chirps lively at him….for some reason.

Nytri flaps her wings and they slowly descend into the city, the city had a defensive barrier but…..nothing happened, neither detected the other. Lilia waves her hand and dark smoke comes from it, at that instant no one paid attention to them. They arrive before the orphanage, Lilia waves her hand and people finally notice them.

"Ny!" A voices comes from the left of Nytri, she look to see a young man walking up to her. Nytri tilts her head trying to remember, the young man opens his eyes wide. "Huh? You don't remember me?! We use to play the good knight, you'd always try to play knight everytime." He chuckles.

Nytri has a wry smile, "I remember enjoying that game but," She bows her head, "Sadly I can't remember everyone."

The young man waves his hands in a flustered manner, "No no it's alright, you don't have to bow." He takes a good look at Nytri and she lifts her head and makes eye contact, the young man blushes. "So what brings you here?" He asks Nytri and points to the Azurians, "Are they your guards? You sure are living a good life huh." He seems happy.

Nytri looks at him in thought, "A good life huh?" She recollects the number of times she came close to death and the monsters she spent the latter part of her childhood with. Nytri smiles in thoughts, "A good life my foot!" She answers the young man, "Actually, I'm paying a visit. Where's everyone else?" The young man gestures for them to sit on a bench by the side.

The young man is surprise, "You don't know?"

Nytri tilts her head, "Know what?" Nytri sits beside him.

The young man is confused looking at Nytri, "You don't know about the war 3 years ago?!"

Nytri looks up in thought, "A war 3 years ago? Hmmm, I haven't been on earth for 7 years. That explains the death and tombstones." Nytri speaks, "Sadly no, I….moved around a lot."

The young man sighs in relief, "That's good. We tried coming to look for you after the enemies were pushed back but we couldn't get anyone to tell us. Anyway, me and Merx are left here, we try to keep things going. Bel found a merchant and was married, Lee joined the army after war and Belo became a merchant apprentice." He looks gloomy, "Everyone else died in the war, father and Loa died trying to save us."

Nytri was able to deduce that Loa is the nun that looked after her, she sighs. "All this happened in 4 years after I left. I wish I was here, maybe I could've hel-"

"No!" the young man speaks, "It's good that you weren't in the capital at that time." He stares at Nytri and Nytri notices, he blushes hard and looks away.

Nytri finds it odd, she speaks telepathic with Sylwia. "Is something on my face?" Sylwia shakes her head.

The young man looks at the guards, "Hey Nytri, why did you come back?"

"To be an adventurer." Nytri replies, the young man leans his back on the bench. Nytri speaks, "You didn't tell me what you do."

"Oh, sorry." The young man speaks, "Actually, I'm into carpentry and Merx is a post messenger. You know, the people who deliver letters around." Nytri tilts her head, the young man chuckles and continues speaking. "It was started about a year ago to help people to send letters."

"That's good," Nytri nods, "Communication is important." A group of kids come to the Azurians and start speaking with them. Nytri sighs, "Are the children survivors of the war?" The young man nods. Nytri continues to chat with him.

An orphan walks up to Kael and Kael lifts the boy on his shoulders and a girl joins. The girl exclaims, "Waaoow mister, you're so strong!" Kael laughs and flexes his muscles.

Lilia towers over a little girl and frightens her a little, Lilia bends down and shows the girls a cookie. "It's quite good." Lilia smiles, the little girl takes and eats it with glee. Lilia shares more cookies with them. She removes her hair from her beautiful face which lessons the fear in the kids, and her smile makes her look harmless.

Kael grins, "That's right, I'm the strongest warrior around, so you better watch out!" he plays with them.

Rhydderch gives one of the kids a short lesson on swordsmanship, the boy acquired a talent then but he didn't know.

A girl points at Kaida, "Look she's big!" they kids watch her and Kaida blushes speaking, "I'm not big!" Some girls also aim up to be like her, "When I grow up, I wanna be like you!" Kaida has a wry smile and pats the girl, "Then you'll have to work hard." The little girl is also motivated for an impossible dream.

They mingle with the kids and give them stories and tips till nightfall. A boy was begging Eryndor to take him as his disciple, 3 kids joined later. Anyway, they finished spending time at the orphanage and left.

They left the city and camp outside because the inns don't support their tall sizes.
