BENEATH THE ABYSS

POV: Emilia

The air was thick, damp, and suffocating. The fall had left me breathless, my body sprawled across the jagged ground. My mind swirled with pain and panic, the darkness pressing in from all sides. Somewhere nearby, I heard Enzo groan, his voice low and strained.

"Enzo," I called out, my voice hoarse. "Are you—are you okay?"

"I've been better," he replied, his tone clipped as he struggled to sit up. His silhouette loomed in the dim light filtering through cracks above us, his movements sharp with irritation and exhaustion. "But I'm alive. Are you hurt?"

"Just bruised," I murmured, though the sharp ache in my ribs said otherwise. "Where are we?"

He glanced around, his expression unreadable. "Underground. Some kind of lower cavern. I didn't know this place even existed."

"Well, congratulations," I said dryly, forcing myself upright despite the stabbing pain in my side. "You've discovered the worst tourist attraction in the city."
