<p>The night in Xian Town was quiet, save for the occasional rustling of the wind through the narrow alleyways. The streets were mostly empty as law-abiding citizens had long since retired to their homes. However, this peace was shattered when a patrol guard hurried toward the town's administrative office, his face pale and his breath labored.</p>

<p>"A crime has been committed," he reported hastily to the officer in charge. "In one of the dark streets near the marketplace. A man was found lifeless, and there were signs of a struggle."</p>
