"I didn’t ask for this,” I whispered, trembling. “I didn’t ask to be your mate.”

Cain stepped back, “Neither did I,” he muttered under his breath. “But the bond doesn’t give us a choice, does it?”

"Okay, that will be all for today. Have them report back to Nathan, and he will tell me what's going on. I want proper coverage on this. Failure is not an option, and I will not tolerate it," Cain's voice boomed through the room. He had just concluded a two-hour meeting with the high-ranking wolves. "You're dismissed," he announced, then walked over to the alcohol cabinet, taking out a bottle of scotch and poured it for himself. After talking and practically teaching grown men what to do, he was on the brink of insanity.

The men had now begun to filter out of the office, all of them off to do as he ordered. Cain shut his eyes, exhaling as he tried to get through to Avery through the mind link. He loved listening to her thoughts, but today, on the other hand, he couldn't get through to her.
