Chapter 186

'She's gone.'

Lydia's words echoed in his head, blocking out every chain of thought, every sound, every breath. Avery was gone? How was that even—

He didn't waste any more time. He bolted right out of the hall, moving faster than anyone could predict. The warriors rushed behind him, none of them able to keep up.

His wolf was raging, clawing at his sides, desperate to be freed.

It wanted blood.

In seconds, Cain reached Avery's room. He halted in his steps, right outside her door, the two guards that were stationed there were dead.

A muscle in his jaw ticked violently. Their bodies were slumped against the walls, their heads tilted at unnatural angles, their weapons still sheathed.

They hadn't even put up a fight.

Cain's vision blurred with rage. His heart pounded against his ribs. He pushed past the bodies and threw open the doors. The moment he stepped inside, his blood ran cold.

The room was destroyed.
